So, I'm driving my C6 and suddenly my OnStar begins to ring. It is ringing as if I called them (which I did not) and I'm waiting for someone to answer. After 4-5 rings an OnStar representative comes on the phone. I immediately ask them why they called me. They said they did not call me but asked if I'm interested in signing up for a new package. I told them that the only thing I'm interested in is to never again receive an unwanted solicitation; ever! The operator put me on hold and got her supervisor. She told me that they will set up my account so an OnStar representative will never again ask me to sign up for services unless I ask about it.
I don't know if this happens to anyone else but I find it obnoxious and annoying. If your sick of the unwanted solicitations, press your OnStar button and request that leave you alone.
Sorry Guys, But I have to disagree with this rant. Yes, it can get irritating to have unsolicited calls no matter were you are. But it is there job to keep your business so to that they have to ask and sometime pester you. Now I will say if you ask them to stop calling you and they do not then it time to get pissed. I was once with Sprint for over 10 years until they would not stop calling me to add more services to my already over priced bill, now I am with Verizon. Now if you get another call after you asked them to stop then I would get pissed.
Just my 2 cents
This is fairly disturbing. I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with the research that proves cell phone usage is diatracting, even with hands off phone usage. An unexpected call in the midst of a traffic situation that demands all of your attention is unconsionable. I'm tempted to write the NTSB.
whether you are signed up or not they have your car wired. They can listen to what is said inside your car ( if you are in cell range and car has power ). Such surveilance systems, oh , sorry, SAAAAAFETY systems, will be mandated by law soon IMO.
Read the novel 1984. RE: "telescreens" in your bedroom and everywhere else.

Note to guy with tinfoil hat photo:
Post photo NOW.
All the illegal surveillance was done by the previous president, the new one is ending that stuff.
I've had a recorded message come out of no where and start telling me to push the blue button. I did not push any buttons and it just stopped.
I found this to be creepy - they could just listen - they can download my location - my speed - my driving habits - to much loss of privacy for my comfort. Great idea for GM to collect marketing information to sell more and make money, to much potential for them to leave on the table IMO.
I want to disconnect onstar just to maintain my privacy.
I don't consider myself a paranoid person. I do consider myself a private person. Onstar can be used to gather private information. I do not know and likely would not know if they choose to use onstar to gather information about me.

You know the previous administration is now out there consulting and working elsewhere. Maybe they are advising onstar on how to collect information to make a profit.

Same thing happened to me the second week. I have never used OS, and will NOT pay now that the 1 year is up. I wish I didn't have to have all the OnStar crap in the car to begin with. Just $$$ down the drain and an ugly windshield antenna to boot. If you WANT OnStar, FINE, but it! I didn't but was forced to have it.

Quite possible, perhaps the upcoming war crimes convictions will take care of that.
I will most likely get bashed for this but this is just my opinion. Alot of you talk about loss of privacy with onstar but every time you pick up a phone and make a call someone could be hearing every word you say. They can track you by your cell phone but you pay for these services. I think that onstar is a very good thing to have, alot of people will not realize this untill someone stills your car or your in a very bad accident out in the middle of nowhere, and before you say a corvette cant be stolen I would think that there are alot of people out there that could and would if the chance was there. JMO
I never even activated mine. I followed the procedure explained in one thread. Basically, two electrical connectors and two antenna connectors. If it isn't dead enough, I don't know how.
