This may be petty but I could use some advice on what to do. I took the 09 w/F55 in to have the Z51 bars put on. I recorded the mileage. When I went to pick it up it had 4 more miles put on it. It was at 100 miles even. I so wanted to put the first 100 miles on it. Sort of a milestone. I can't think of why the car had mileage put on it. I know it doesn't have to be driven just for sway bar installation or am I wrong.. Thanks..Mike

I would test drive almost all cars before and after working on them. first to verify or see if i notice anything and after to verify i fixed it. if its in an area where the off ramp makes a guy go a long way around then maybe 4 milesi s ok (you need to be the judge of that),, i would do about a mile tops.
sounds like a bit excessive,,, More then likely they did a bit of a quick test drive to feel for themselves if it made a difference. next time might want to let them know about driving it. Sucks for you now, too bad it happened. paul

I had new sway bars put on my C5 a few years ago, and the mechanic has to make sure they were installed properly and needed any adjustment. I remember when he first put them on my car, he did not do a road test, and my car was squeaking and creaking, etc. I forget what he remembered he did wrong, but it had something to do with not putting enough pressure (or too much pressure) on the springs when the sway bars were installed.
4 miles of a road test to find some bumps to go over, and go around some corners is no big deal at all, IMO.
Weather I'm working on my C6 or my Harley, I always do a test drive after working on them. As for the 100 mile milestone; no big deal. I'm sure you have some more significant events in your life to reflect back on.

4 Miles is no big deal. Also, you said you wanted to put the 1st 100 miles on it. Trust me, the car was driven a few miles before you ever bought it.
I was a tech for many years. Shop policy for quality control - test drive all work. Unless the customer said - no one drives this car. Which was perfectly OK, and our service writers always noted on the RO when someone said this. When the customer came back, mileage was still the same - everyone happy. If it was some work that really should be test driven after completion, we would ask the customer if they would like to stop back in when complete and go with the tech on the test drive to make sure everything is OK.
Communication is the key. If someone doesn't want miles put on, no problem but everyone needs to know this before the work begins. If not, it's probably going to be driven as a quality check. Kind of like a chef that tastes his food. Never trust a skinny chef, or a tech that has never driven a vette.

A test drive for any change in the suspension should be expected.
