Default Five Point Harness Advice

I am looking to add five point harnesses to my 05. I was wondering if anyone has any setup advise. I have the PFADT roll bar for the shoulder belts, but was wondering about the lap and sub belts. I know they make brackets, but I haven't really found any yet. Also, will the stock belts still function?
Any advice or brand information is appreciated!

Brey Krause has the best options for a dual use car... get a 6-pt belt with clip-in ends

Until I install a roll bar/cage, I use the Brey-Krause harness bar along with a Crow 6-point restraint. Using a 'racing' seat designed for shoulder harnesses is best but for now, I simply ran the shoulder harnessess through the back of the stock seat. I had a local auto upholstery shop open the seat back and make two reinforced openings through the hard shell of the seat back.

I know several Corvette racers that have done this and it works well IMO....it keeps me firmly planted in the seat through the rigors of track use...no more fighting to support my shifting lateral body weight with my arms on the steering wheel. I also use a sternum strap to secure the 2 shoulder straps together on my chest. If you track your car you'll be amazed at the difference using a harness makes.

Livermore Performance is a good source for the components including the brackets you connect the harness straps to.

One note...my submarine straps are hooked-up the 'recommended' way with the two ends secured at either side of the front seat tracks....the sub strap runs up in front of me and connects to the cam lock. A better way would be to have the sub straps secured but run them through the base of the seat-back behind me (so I'm sitting on the sub strap) and bring them forward (under me) and connect them to the cam lock. This would be a better way to restrict the body's forward motion. I had too much mechanical stuff under my seat to run the straps under the seat from front to rear. I plan to see if there's a way to connect the sub straps to the rear seat tracks and run them up through the seat between the seat bottom and seat-back.

My stock seat belt is still functional but I've never used it since installing the harness.

^ And there you have it... the perfect setup for a dual use car I helped a good buddy (DoingOK) install the BK bar on his C6Z. It's expensive, but a very very nice piece.

EDIT... how tall are you? I'd think the spot where the shoulder harnsesses come out may be low for taller people?

Hardbar is the way to go. I have a lot of his stuff in my car because the quality and workmanship is top notch. Remember gary owns a corvette and tests all his stuff before anyone of us installs it on our car so you know it works and fits our cars.

The bk system works but puts the lap belt and sub belt equal to your hips almost in front of you and IMHO this is not the best setup for protection. The mounts for sub and lap should be behind you. The sub should also come through the back of the seat and wrap under you while the lap would come from the side.

And yes get 6 point you don't want the boys to have to decide which side to pick in a split second.

A properly located single strap will work without crushing the boys in an impact, because that strap should only prevent the lap belt from riding up on your hips; it isn't suposed to pull on your body at all. Boeing does a nice job with the single sub strap in their airliner cockpits. But a setup like that would require major mods to the C6 seats and also a strong mounting point on the floor. Thus, the 6 point is much more practical in a 'vette and many other cars.

Hi jsbwac,

We've got a great solution for Mounting your race seat. Your entire set up can be built on your work bench, then easily swapped with your stock seat. No frustrating installation of bolts you can't see or can't reach. The base mount is shaped to match the contour of the floor so the seat sits as low as possible.

Our base mounting bracket uses the 4 factory seat bolts, accommodates mounting for lap harnesses (clip-in or bolt-in), and works with or without sliders. The hardware we include will work to mount your clip-in harnesses - if you're using bolt-in harnesses you'll need to use the hardware from your harness kit.

Both our base mount and side mounts are made of light, strong 6061 Aluminum and heat-treated for strength.

This kit includes the side mounts which work specifically with our base mount and with most side-mount race seats.

* Works with bottom or side-mount style seats
* Works with or with-out sliders
* Sits very low in the car, directly on the carpet
* With only 4 bolts, you can remove the seat and lap harnesses making it easy to swap back to the stock seat if desired.

You can find more information on our website HERE. Please feel free to call or email us anytime with questions!

Kind regards ,
