Well it is time to change my battery on my 06 vert. Was wondering what is the best battery to replace my stock battery and can I do it myself or should I go to a dealer and have it done. not sure what is involved with changing the battery. Thanks
If you can turn a wrench you can change a battery. Many Corvette owners seem to like the Optima battery. When I replaced my original, factory battery (after 3+ years of excellent service) I opted for a conventional battery.
A Sears Diehard or Optima heavy duty battery gets good reviews in the forum. Obviously, your OEM battery worked fine and a dealer can change it in just a few minutes - - -
If you've not changed a battery before, as Wayne says- it's very simple but may be worth having a dealer (or even Auto Zone) do it to avoid the hassle.
Just be sure to disconnect the NEGATIVE cable FIRST and reconnect it LAST.
Oh, and leave the window DOWN, (or in your case you could leave the top down) Just in case something weird happens with the FOB, etc. You can get in EASY with the manual release. Shouldn't be a problem but I tend to cover all the possibilities.

Pain heals, Chicks dig scars, and Glory lasts forever...... Sorry.that was another movie... Ok Vettes eat batteries,, they just do... the factory battery did not make it 2 1/2 years... so I got a 7 year warranty battery, with a 3 year FREE replacement, no pro-rate from AutoZone... like $100.. fit great, and I figure... $33.33 a year is cheap... if it lasts longer... great... So far...so good...
I just put an Optima yellow top (D35 I think) in my 06 vert. You need a 10mm for the terminals, and I forget the size of the retaining bolt at the front of the battery at the base. After removing the cables you need to remove the retaining bolt, it will come out with a black plastic wedge that holds the battery in place. My car had a wire loom going over it so I had to use a universal to get a good ratchet on it. The optima base was a little smaller so I slid it to the outside before tightening it down since in NJ I pull alot of g's on the Jersey jugghandles. After that I re-indexed the windows and all was well. Didn't even have to reset my presets on the radio.

Thanks again. I will do it myself. I just thought there was more to it.
If you're a Costco member, I notice they're having a sale on Optimas.
Depending on how long you intend to have the car, the Sears Platinum and Odyssey batteries may have an even longer life.

Don't change the battery if you are due for a state inspection within the next 10 days. If NJ is like NY then the emissions test equipment will show a "not ready" status at inspection and cause you to come back for another test. It takes about a week to 10 days for the car to adjust so that the equipment will read the vehicle.
