Default Window Tint opinions

Thinking of getting the windows tinted on the black C6.

Where do you guys come out on window tint?

Plain or tinted

If tinted do you go highly illegal, barely illegal or legal?

My LMB is tinted to the maximum allowed by law. In most states, the maximum is pretty dark - not sure how much more you'd want to go on tint.

I have both side windows tinted and the rear hatch to the max allowed in my state (35%).

Glad I did it. Not only helps keep the heat down but looks really on a black car

I live in Arizona and with our relentless sunshine and high heat window tinting is virtually mandatory. My thoughts on tinting are you never tint the front windshield; you keep the side windows legal; and, you tint the rear hatch glass darker than the side windows. You do not, however, use limo or blackout tint on the back glass...you want to maintain a decent level of visibility (especially at night).

With many window tinting is more of a fashion statement...they're willing to sacrifice visibility and safety for 'the look.' Window tinting is a practical necessity for me but I value the ability to see out the windows. IMO keep the window tint legal.

In Florida, the max for the rear window is 15%. I do not think I would want anything darker. If it was darker, it would be difficult to see out at night and make it harder to back-up.

My side windows are at the legal limit which is 28%. I would have liked this darker, but again at night it is pretty dark.

My objective was more for UV protection then looks, though I do like the looks of tinted windows. Therefore I went with the carbon tint since it had 99% UV filtering and stayed within the legal limits.

nice looking cars guys.
I agree, I am not going to go limo, but I may go 20%. I think 35% is the legal limit here.

Call your local LASO office and ask 'em. Or Google it (probably the easier option)

How much does it cost to tint the car and what should I watch out for from a shady business? Thanks.

tinted the rear only, as dark as they make it! ceramic film, my guy painted the dots, could not be happier! had a guy at a show say: " you know how it is? the air bubbels along the defroster lines" I ruined his day by telling him that I didn't have that problem, $250.00 you get what you pay for, very good tinter, lifetime garr. $250.00-$400.00 whole car IMHO

When I got my back window tinted it cost 120 bux. But the guy doing it said that Corvette back windows are the hardest to tint. One thing to make sure of is make sure the guy does a good job on the matrix embossed dotted area on the top of the window. They need to make sure it sticks right. Dont leave until they stick that area right.

You want a place that knows Vettes, particularly the rear window of the C6 as it can be.....errr....challenging for those who don't have experience with 'em.

I paid around $240 for both sides and the rear on mine.

Window Tinting Law in California
What you need to know. California Tint Law Enacted: 1999

HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In California, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

Windshield | Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows | Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows | Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window | Any darkness can be used.
HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?

Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.

Front Side Windows | Must not be more reflective than a standard window.
Back Side Windows | Must not be more reflective than a standard window.
OTHER CALIFORNIA RULES AND REGULATIONS

Restricted Colors | The tint color(s) of RED AMBER BLUE are not legal by state law.
Side Mirrors | Dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted.
Certificate Requirements | Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state.
Sticker Requirements | No sticker to identify legal tinting is required.
Medical Exemption | State law does NOT allow medical exemptions that would allow you use special tint.

Screw the laws .... once in a while you may have to pay a fine ...

Nothing looks better than dark tints on a black C6 .
