Yesterday I got a small chip in the very lower part of my windshield.. its not even noticeable, however I think it would be a good idea to see if I can get it fixed to prevent it from spreading...
Do regular auto glass shops do this kind of work .. or can I buy a kit of some type and do it myself ...

Check with your insurance company. Many will cover the repair with no deductible.
Usually your insurance will pay for it also. They consider it comprehensive coverage so your rates shouldn't go up. They rather pay $35 or so rather than $1500 when it cracks.
I got a medium size chip last Aug. A mobile unit came to the house & made repair using a sealing process. It's guaranteed. Also I was told if I didn't care for the repair or looks of the windshield, they'd replace the windshield. Cost of repair was $50 & insurance covered it. I'm satisfied with the original repair. I know the crack is there but nobody else can see it.

"Windshield repair"---either google it, or look up in yellow pages. Most come to your house to fix it. Some shops do it. Never had it done at a glass shop. I've had it done in 4 different cities, mostly on trips. Works well. Never even talked to insurance for $50-$75 repair.
I'm going to look into some glass shops in the area.... If the price is under $100 I'm not even going to contact the ins. Co...
again good info !!
It's your $. But, why not check to see if the insurance company will pay for it? Many don't charge anything extra to you. You have been paying them for years I assume.
I have a small chip with no cracking, the glass shop says it's too small to repair; just live with it.
If there is no crack, there is nothing to repair.
The repair is to seal a crack so that moisture does not get into the glass layers and cause the crack to spread.
I bought a kit at WalMart last year for about $20 if I recall correctly - used it to fix a chip with a small crack in my wife's Audi windshield. Came out AMAZINGLY well - barely noticeable and hasn't spread at all. For the lack of hassle (either going to glass repair or arranging for them to arrive at our house) it was worth it. Also didn't have someone's belt buckle rubbing against the fender.....
