first of all i'd like to introduce myself...
my name is Ingo and I am german, .
Been here on the forum for a while now, just reading most of the time, actually this is the first time I am writing though
Got me a C6 last year when I've been to the U.S vistiting a good friend of mine.
Everything worked just fine to get that sweet baby over here.

Now since I got the C6 with the gm navigation unit I'd been very lucky it worked with a used 2005 european map nav disc over here.
Just last week i was able to get a 2008 nav disc of another car brand with updated maps that would work in a corvettes navigation unit.
Now here comes the big "BUT"......I need the right Loading.kwi for the corvette navigation unit and it needs to be a newer one, just like the one of the 2007/2008 disc.
Could anyone of you help me out with the Loading.kwi file of of a 5.0 U.S. version dvd, in fact there is a file like that?
Further I'd appreciate If someone could post the new DVD structure.
The newer one i got looks a little different compared to the older version.
Additonally there is a 05.cmp file. Wondering if this file is on the U.S. disc just as well?

The problem:

With the new dvd the Nav unit reads the maps but It is impossible to put in any address, can't even get access by touching the address or region button.
I guess there needs to be some kind of a firmware update, 'cause of the different dvd structure rather the additional files

Thanks for the posting, do you know any older version that had a loading.kwi?
Did you ever have to run any update before at all? I mean by upgrading to newer maps? Or did you just swap the disc and that was about it?

 

I knew of the loading.kwi file from the thread here on hacking the nav but when I looked on version 3.0, there is no loading.kwi there either.

The only update I know of is the one for 05's that the dealer does. It eliminates static and adds MP3 capability. The DVDs only have the maps as far as I know. You just put the new one in and it works. You can also go back to the older one and it works as it always did.

Good luck. You've certainly got a harder problem than our whining that it takes 3 months to get a free map update.

At least I know that there was no Loading.kwi on the U.S. Version and that you always can go back to older versions.

WELCOME to Corvette heaven your choice of cars is outstanding

I know that General Motors (GM) sells Corvettes across most of Europe and would assume that you could locate and contact a Dealer who sells and services Corvettes for the Europe market. Once you find such a business I'll bet that they can supply you with a Free Navigation Disk that is for the European continent. Here in the States we can get two free updates of the Navigation disk directly from GM or from our Dealer so I see no reason why the same process would not apply to Germany.

FYI in the US, the two free disk upgrades were for 2006/2007 models only. The 2006 updates needed to be claimed by Dec 31, 2008 (too late now) and the 2007 need to be claimed by Dec 31, 2009.

2005, 2008 and 2009 don't qualify for free updates in the US. Since you have an 05, I doubt you get a free update.

Good Luck Coxer and use your 05 disc if need be. If it works, there is no major functionality difference between 05 and 08/09 here, just map info. Is there any reason you can't try the 08 maps on the 05 DVD as long as you are in possession of the 08 disk?

but I finally got it worked out today
Got the european loading.kwi from a 2007 disc, fed the navigation system with it and it started to update right away...
Works great, with all the new map info!

We don't get free updates over here, a new dvd is about 270 Euros, that must be something like...what... $350??? (crazy germans)

Oh...I'm sorry for my misspelling, the model I got is a MY 2006, just had a disc of a 2005 model that worked, but since germans always wasting there money and changing streets to oneways or doin oneways to the other ways lol? I guess It's helpin a lot; drivin with the newer map in bigger citys just like Frankfurt.
No, it's absolutely impossible to get the 2008 maps workin with the 2005 dvd. As Fred says below, the menu structure is different. But, after the update it still is possible to go back to the older version, just for all the european guys to know.

For what it's worth, I have seen changes in the menu structure of the NAV unit when I upgraded my DVD. With the new DVD, I have the latest Europe version, there are more options to choose from in the menu. Over here we have loads of map changes every year. I cant say if there are also changes made in the menu structure for the US version discs, I don't have the old versions to compare to the new 5.0 version discs that I have.

 

We are exporting a US 2006 C6 to Germany and have purchased the necessary lights for conversion, etc. However, we are having a hard time finding a European Nav DVD. Can anyone please tell us where we can find one? Thanks -
