Over the weekend I needed to leave a couple of small items in my C6 overnight at a motel. I was at an annual meeting and was going to be out of the room a lot, so I felt they were safer in the car.
I was putting them in one of the back cubby hole compartments and the front Lic bracket was still stored there. I discovered the license bracket perfectly fit the storage compartment, so I put my stuff in and cramed the license bracket down on top. It fit pretty snug and made a good cover.
I realized that if I made a false bottom out of 1/4 plywood for the compartment and covered it with black carpet it would really be a good hidding spot for your camera or other small items you don't want to risk leaving in the glove box, or under the seat. Attach 4 corner legs 4 inches long, and make it a tight fit. It will be really hard to realize it's not the bottom of the compartment.
I'm building mine this weekend.

How is it "secret" or more hidden simply because something is on top of something else? If a thief opens the compartment chances are he will take everything out.

The OP is saying to make the false bottom in such a way that it is a snug fit and appears to be the bottom of the cubby.

If made correctly I suspect you could have the Vette stolen and returned from police impound and still find your valuables in there.
I'm trying to come up with some way to lift it up that won't give it away. Maybe just a loose flap on the carpet at the side with a finger hole in the plywood.
