The actual weight increase isn't a problem. Even 5 lbs per wheel is only 20 lbs and most of us could probably lose 20 lbs. The repro wheels offer a cheap alternative but they are usually cheap for a reason such as Made in China. I don't know about you all but I'm not trusting my high performance car to wheels made in China. I rather spend a few $ and go with a great set of wheels.
Unsprung weight is where it will affect the most. The wheel is constantly going up and down. 5 lbs or around a 20% increase over stock is a big difference with shock rates. That is where unsprung weight kicks in. Chrome is a good way to increase weight since the chrome is usually added to a stock wheel.
But if I went aftermarket I wouldn't waste my money on the repros that you see advertised so frequently. I would go with wheels such as CCW, Modular Concepts or OZ. From what I have seen those wheels weigh less or at least equal to stock, even when chromed.
