Some of you may have seen the For Sale thread in the C6 section of a beuatiful CG Z by a Chevy dealer. The car has been a "demo" car for the owner and currently has about 4,000 miles on it.
What I can't seem to get my head around is the fact that the dealer is selling the car as new, untitled even though it has 4K miles.
Sure, it has been babied and is a stunning car, but the asking price is way up there for a car that I would consider "used" and no longer new.
Can someone explain to me how a car with 4K miles can still be considered new??
Irregardless of "demo" or MSO status, to me the car is used.
The car was probably driven with a dealer tag and was not registered, hence the new car status, if I recall correctly GM will warrant if from the time of sale. Still not a good deal, it is a used car.
A local dealer once told my father-in-law to pass on a demo.
. . . it really IS a buyers market, Russ. Make yourself happy. You can get a 'brand new' one for a bargain price, but if you like this one a lot how much difference will $4 of $5k make five years from now?
Actually the warranty started when the car was put in demo service so you lose that portion. The rest is up to you as far as price. Technically, it is used but you will be the first titled owner.
The thing I'm trying to understand is why the dealer is insisting that the car is NOT a used car, that it is still brand new. And, they are selling it as a new car.
I just don't get it, and probably never will!!!
What if the car had 15K miles, driven as a demo, with dealer plates??

Yep...still would be sold as "new". It becomes used only if it has been registered. As far as "babied", I highly doubt it. I think quite the contrary.

You / we don't understand because we have not yet entered "The Dealer Zone". This is similar to "The Twilight Zone". It is characterized by your possessions being worthless, the dealer's possessions being priceless, and all logic and common sense is absent.
Stale coffee and bad pastries are often available, however.

Nice!!!
I have filed this one in the back recesses of my mind under the heading.....

what's so hard to understand? he could call it a one off Rolls and ask 200k for it? you gonna buy it? he wants maximum price, and claims it's never been titled, which it hasn't. are you gonna buy that line? if not, move on. he will probably find a sucker who will. just move on. who cares what he says it is?
It's NOT a new car. Demos are driven by MULTIPLE salespeople, and customers. Or driven by salespeople for weekenders. I've rode and driven lots of Demos and i can tell you they are not all babied. Many are driven like Trucks....
You can probably find a 50 mile NEW car for the same price or close to the 4,000 mile demo car.
He is considering the car "NEW" because the warranty does not start until it is delivered to a retail customer. I've purchased "Demo" cars with low miles, 196 on one, about 1100 on another and a couple more. The warranty date on all of them was the delivery date to ME and the miles were added into the total ie: the car with 196 (I wanted the sales managers car due to the color and I did not want to wait) was 3 years or until the car had 36,196 miles. Make sure you get an odometer statement that shows the in-service miles.
I wouldn't buy a demo Corvette with 4000 miles on it. I'm sure most those miles are hard (see how fast it is) with a cold engine. Nobody cares because it's not their car. Kind of like buying a used Hertz C6.
MKSZ51 ... very funny So true, you bring a pristine super low mile car to the delaer & what you have is worth nothing but what they have is priceless...I too saw this car for sale & would stay away. New can be had for about the same. I love CG but I'm still waiting too see if Crystal red will be available on the Z for 2010.

Real simple, 4000 miles ain't new.....doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it, but it better be a great deal....
Given two identical cars with same price, I'll take the one with 3 miles over the one with 4000 miles...
I understand the never titled, thus new status, but to me this is just down right fraud by the dealer and GM to allow them to do it. This is just wrong and cannot be justified period.
