Is there anything out there, factual or professionally opinionated, on the top performing international production cars for track and strip. I was wondering where the Corvette currently ranks in the world line up. Stock, production, just as they come off the assembly line. Who are the top 3 in competition?
(If you don't already know, Top Gear is a Brit car show, and one of the things they do is run every car around the same track, driven by the same driver. The driver has no identity beyond The Stig, but it appears to be an F1 champ or similar - the Stig has never been beaten on that track - despite a range of high-profile competitors, such as Nigel Mansell.)

Lets put it this way. In the WORLDS TOP SPORTS CAR RACING. ALMS GT1 and ACO GT1 racing, all the OTHER manufactures dropped out and quite.
Why? Corvette just beat them silly.
So no there is no real road racing comparison
Now off the line assembly, Porsche is the ( or IIRC ) the main competitor.

It is a blast driving all those great cars, and the frequent flyer miles are great, but I wish they would let me wear a different color driving suit; that white really is hard for me to keep clean. And they make fun of my driving music sometimes. Ingrates.
I sometimes chuckle about posts like this because - okay, flame on - anyone who cares whether their 180+ MPH, off the showroom floor, car, is ranked in such a list must either have some room-temperature IQ friends or neighbors who are taking them to task to explain why they didn't get a ZR-1 or one of those really swell Lamborghinis instead of a Corvette.
As a matter of curiosity, fine. Actually one can look that up on the internet. Not to suggest this was the intent of the OP, but sometimes I get really weary of posters who seem to be on this forum to somehow look for reassurance they bought the right contender for the Friday night street races. Or at least some sort of bragging rights.
I would expect this sort of thing from someone who would pay big bucks for, say, a Nissan GTR or even a Subaru Sti. C'mon you Corvette guys... How many of you bought your C6 because it made the top 10 list of something on Top Gear (the primary reason I don't bother to subscribe to premium cable service)
I also like to look at lap times of the Nurburgring. This list can be found on wikipedia as well. Many of the cars tested by manufacturers are stock or relatively (safety equipment; tires) close to it. Everyone tests there because the track is quite challenging and is fairly rough so it shows if these cars can be fast and still deal with real world roads. GM even built a test track that was intended to mimic a portion of the Ring.
I agree that making this list wouldn't really work because different cars would be faster based on the nature of the track. However, I think the ZR1 would be a top 10 car on this list. It could potentially be close to 5th place if you don't count some of the super limited production street legal cars. Z06 would probably sit between 10 and 15. Base vette probably top 20.
Personally, I could care less where the Corvette is ranked against other cars. I wanted a Vette ever since I saw my first one as a kid. I waited 45 yrs for my first one.....Do you think I care Diddly SQUAT about rankings.....
In some aspects its cool to care about how the Corvette sits among other sports cars though. Doesn't mean that you have to feel bad if your car doesn't sit on top. It just means that when you walk out to your car and fire it up you know that you made the choice that was right for you. Plenty of people that can afford other faster cars still buy Vettes. To me that's a huge testament to the awesome cars that we drive.

Come on, don't hold back... tell us how you really feel!
