My nephew who is a very experienced driver just picked up a DSO 2006 Z-O6 last weekend ..
He had put only about 60 miles on it and on a short trip yesterday had an accident ..
There were several people following up a sweeping right hand on ramp to the highway , and the people behind him saw it happen ..
The passenger side rear wheel locked up , and in an instant he jumped the curb and rolled it three times ..
The people in the car were in a minivan and swore , as my nephew did they were doing 37 miles per hour ..
My nephew has countless hours on road race coarses , and has driven a 9 second drag car for the last 10 years ..AND HE SAID HE HAD NO CONTROL ..
I did a search but cant find any info on rear end failure's..Any feedback would be appreciated .
Again he was not racing or burning rubber ...T
The first thing that comes to mind is the Active Handling system. There is a known issue that was covered by a 2007 TSB. Here is some reading material for you, see what you think.
Also sorry to hear that. Did he get the names of the people who swore they were all doing 37 mph? Would help, but maybe not much.
It's going to take some kind of tech crew probably from GM to determine if this was a near-fatal, parts failure, and thus, the blame is on GM. However, in this case it might work in your nephew's favor. There is another issue though and that is being a known item (but not a recall per se) for needing correction, at the discretion of the owner. Which means if the prior owner didn't bring it in, and neither did your nephew, the burden could still be on the owner. I hope not; I hope that's not the interpretation.
In any event, this is covered by his insurance, right?
Yes he got all info from witnesses ..they said the rear right STOPPED ..and in an instant over the side ..
There were two sets of witnesses ...
Just his pride was hurt ..
Good point, Joe. Also, glad he got the names; hope it's to his benefit. I presume Monday, he'll be talking with the dealership to ask for some investigation of the car's problems.
Quick update ...We got it up on a lift and all of the damage is on the upper shell ..Aall glass and roof ..gone every panel broken and torn ...
Frame and underside ..no bent or broken with the naked eye ..
Didnt try to fire engine ..all coolers on the front and oil returns are gone ...
He swears he was turning the wheel to get it to correct , and there was nothing turning ....
Just a thought......the more the car is touched now the greater the difficulty you will have in any litigation in the future. If you anticipate pushing this to any kind of lawsuit or even safety investigation the car needs to be left alone, locked away and wait for proper, supervised inspection. Best of luck.

Thank you ..
We are a group of guys that spend all of our spare time with cars ..SCCA, drag racing ,car shows and trading ..building , restoring ..
Most make a living one way or another in the auto industry .
The person doing the inspection is a licensed insurance representative doing the inspection ..
He has 30 plus years experience , we are very fortunate to have a very elaborate garage with a lift ...
He took all his notes to the office to run through the computer ..just to get an idea which way to go ..
I'm glad he wasn't hurt and sorry about the damage to the car. Was he cited for failure to control...for 'causing' an accident? This would be something you want to address especially if there's any thought of product liability as a cause or contributing factor (not to mention all the other bad things resulting from an at-fault accident). Under the circumstance you might want to retain an attorney.
I'd inquire if the EDR (event data recorder) can be accessed by insurance investigators to help substantiate the cause of the accident. Good luck!
No he was not cited for anything ..
Two sets of witnesses ,one that had called 911 stayed and gave the same account of rate of speed ..
Both also saw the wheel lock up ..
I made statement that it was rear passenger , but in fact it was driver rear wheel lock ..
