Hi, just took the car out this morning with my son and turned on climate control..... after about 5 seconds my son says "what is that smell, smells like something died". I think he is right, I think a mouse died somewhere in my heating/cooling ducts.
ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS WHERE TO LOOK FIRST AND HOW TO DO IT WITHOUT COMPLETE DISMANTLING? SHOULD I BEGIN TO LOOK ON THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR (ducts)? ONLY SMELLS WITH BLOWER ON.....ANYONE EVER EXPERIENCE THIS BEFORE? THANKS IN ADVANCE!
I doubt it's a mouse. I'm guessing it's mildew. You could try spraying Lysol into the intake while running the system fan on high. Or there is commercially available spray cleaner. Here are a couple of previous discussions:
Awww, that's gonna really suck if it is a mouse.... I would try the lysol thing too for starters. Maybe you'll luck out!
And if it is still bad, try spraying as directed above, and then spraying some more in the engine compartment vents and letting it sit overnight...my C5 was bad that way. Good luck -- the smell CAN be pretty terrible!

I appreciate the other thread links, I'll look at them. I really think it is a mouse though (I put poison in garage last fall and have removed others recently). The Lysol trick sounds like a good idea, I'll try that too.
I had a friend that had a mouse die in his heater ducts (not on a vette) and it took a long time for the smell to go away. Sounds like a trip to a dealer or air conditioning service place might be the only thing that will clear it up quickly. Good luck.
The A/C smells in my car.. after 2 years of putting up with it, I bought a can of duct spray from Napa yesterday. I sprayed it in all the vents and I *think* it's done the trick.. time will tell.
Wow...you were lucky that he didn't get any further! Keep your fingers crossed that there was only one.
As you have probably learned, poison is not a good idea (I also leaned from experience...only my house instead of car). Next time use traps. I have an electronic trap (Rat Zapper) that works great. I keep it in the garage and check it daily. It's interesting that there won't be a mouse for months and then I'll get one every day for a few days. Fortunately they've never made it as far as the car.
Oh, if you have any bird or pet food in the garage store it in a garbage can or other metal container that they can't get into.
Glad he made it easy on you to find him before his death. Better hope there are not any more. when there is one , there are usually several in the same area. I would double check the garage and lay lots of glue boards around along the walls.
