Default C6 Navigation Update Help?

First off, Hello I am new to this site. i just bought a 2006 corvette convertible and all I can say is "Man, this thing is incredible". Next, the Navigation is so outdated. I have read there have been several updates available. Is it something I can buy from someone or do I have to go thru the Nav Disc dept. They wanted $199 for it. what have been everyones expereince with this? At one point there was a thread where people were burining copies for other people. Please let me know so i can get this thing Perfect. thanks and i look forward to becoming a regular on this site

Welcome! The latest version is 5.0 and will take months to get from GM. After I got mine, I didn't find that much difference from the 4.0 version that I had. As far as burning a copy, I'm not smart enough to do that!

In a few months there will be a new version. Once that happens then you can pick up the current version for $59 while supplies last.

when i called the Nav Disc 800 # they said the current 2009 version is ready to ship and it would take 7 business days. she said it had all new data. she told me that every year when they update the disc there is a 20% growth over the data compared to the prior year. i just wanted to know 1) should i buy and or 2) does anyone have the ability to burn a copy of theirs and let me try that? i will pay a fee and for shipping.

There probably are some members that are able to do this. However, what you are asking members to do for you on an open forum is illegal. The forum generally does not look kindly on illegal activity.

I have the latest version and did find that it updated some streets in my area. Version 4.0 which will still be newer than what you have is a pretty good version as well. Don't look for the nav disc update to change anything else about the way the nav looks or operates, the data updates will simply update street, points of interest and routing information.

Here's a link to what talon90 was talking about. It specifically mentions Carfax, but says similar activities would be under the same rule.

Todd - I received an updated DVD in mid-late 2008 for my 2007 Z06. I had sold the car before it arrived. If I can find it you are welcome to it.

I will check the shop for it this weekend and let you know if I find it.

thats what i was looking for, yes i realize my question is off base and probably the wrong thing to ask for. i am looking for guidance as how to update this navigation system or if my only option is the pay the $199 fee. sometimes, like in the snowmobile forums i frequent guys have suggestions or other places that may offer the same sort of product but at a discounted price compared to what the manufacturer offers. Thanks and sorry if i offended anyone.......

Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!! Congratulations on your new C6!! Enjoy the ride and the Forums.

If you haven't already done it, you should check out the "sticky" at the top of the General thread list for Talon90's tutorial on using the factory Nav. Many have learned a lot from it. All the best.

Depending on which aspects of your navigation system you're wanting to "update", it may or may not be possible. As far as I know, the only updating that can be done is to install a newer version of the data DVD. The newer DVDs add new streets and POIs but do not add operating features. Since your car is a 2006, it likely has Version 2 of the data DVD. Version 5 is the current version. I just switched from Version 4 to Version 5; the new version has my home street on it but Version 4 did not.

yes i am only looking for updates with streets, POI's not really the features of the Nav sysytem. Many of the roads and restaraunts around here arent listed. i am sure there have been 2-3 updates since my version.

Yes i went thru all those tutorials on this site and man they were really informational. I love this site!!!!
