Default Two questions please.

I can't find an exact answer,

1 - What gears come in a stock 2007 A6 vette with paddle shifter? I was under the impression that they come with 3.42's but I have seen posts with 2.## gears. Whats stock please?

2 - My body shop guy who has worked on my cars for the last 20+ years told me the newer vettes like mine are no longer fiberglass. Is he correct? if so, when did they stop making vette's out of fiberglass?

thanks very much for the replies. I had a 2001 TA M6 with 3.42's it would move. sure would like the 3.42's in this.

I had a license frame on my 68 vette "Wrap your A$$ in Fiberglass", guess that does not work any more. any other catchy prases for the vette?

Well, SMC is still fiberglass, just not the fiberglass of years gone by. So your lic frame saying is still valid.

As for the 2.56 A6 axle ratio, it gives a better overall first gear ratio than the 3.42 M6 in the Z51; 10.32:1 vs 10.16:1! And the '08-'09 optional 2.73 is even better at 11.00:1. Don't feel bad about a 2.56, it is quite fine.

True, but under normal acceleration, my A6 shifts from 1st to 2nd at approximately 8 mph. Not sure when it shifts under WOT.

thanks again for the info, so do most people with auto's go to 2.73's or 3.42's as an upgrade? right now I love the gas milage in this and plenty of pep for this old man. Any one do 4.10's with an auto? looking for opinions on how different gears feel. My Ta that I mentioned had the 3.42's and for the track I switched to 4.54's. it was an M6 though. top end went from 180+ to 150ish going to the 4.56's.

here is a couple of pictures of old TA

I forget where I got this, but it should be close:

Sheet Molding Compound (SMC)

* SMC is the paste that is compression molded
o 33% polyester resin and stryrene, which polymerizes and crosslinks
o 33% glass fibers (1” fibers)
o 33% Calcium Carbonate

thanks, so I have been looking at wide body kits from some of the vendors? I think they are made out of just fiberglass. Is that correct? I do have a custom fiberglass piece on my dodge truck that looks great.

I ordered my 08 A6 with the optional 273 gear. It was better than the 256 that I had in my 07. I switched last year to Chuck COW's 342 attack package and it's an animal now. BUT - you mentioned liking the gas mileage. I lost 3+ mpg going to the 342 gears. My friend and I recently went to Bowling Green to the Bash, he has an 08 A6 with the 273 gear. When we stopped for gas each time, I would need 1 1/2 to 2 gallons more than he would. Small price to pay for the fun factor of the 342 gears. If I was to do it all over again, I might opt for the 315 gears and split the difference. What ever way you go, get Chuck to tune your A6, it really wakes the car up.

too funny, loved the 3.42's in my TA for the highway and I could hit over 50 in first at the track and go through the 1/4 mile in third before switching to the 4.54's. I will take this car to the track as soon as I get some time off to see what it does stock. also want to get a base line dyno before getting any performance mods. no huge plans because I want the car to last unlike the red TA which I blew up at the track. my plan is a set of long tube headers, intake borla or some other cat back.

Low 40s sounds right. With Chuck/CoW at the helm of my '07 A6 in after-tune WOT testing it shifted 2nd to 3rd at about 85 -- and burned rubber again! Simply awesome.
