Ok so I'm driving from North Carolina to Nebraska, about 1,432 miles. I have the brand new 08 Corvette I just bought and I have the brand new 09 GMC Sierra I just bought (tryin to do my part to stimulate the economy and help out GM) So the question is, which one should I drive? Money is not a problem so I'm not worried about what kind of gas mileage I get. If I take the Vette, any tips from anyone that's been on road trips with them? Well, any input is appreciated!
Two things I've done to my Vette for road travel. Add the racemesh grill from Top Flight Reproductions to prevent debris from taking out the AC condensor and the GM splash guards from Gene Culley to avoid road debris coming off the tires and marking up the lower rocker area.
I would take the Vette but if it were me I'd use a bra because of the amount of bugs that will be splattered all over your front bumper.
The nylon strecth bras are easy on and easy off, the bugs shake right off them and the best part is they can be washed in any coin operated laundry along the way.
Good luck and have a safe trip no matter which vehicle you decide to take.
Don't know how far into NE you'll be going, but with 1400+ miles, I'm guessing the western part.
If so I'd recommend a book to read, NE is pretty boring.
You might be taking I-74 thru Illinois and hook up with I-80 westbound. If so, stop by, I'll pop for lunch and give you a personal tour of this place: www.vcwm.org
We. too. are taking a bit of a road trip this weekend. We are heading up to Superior, WI and along Lake Superior to Thunder Bay, Ontario. From there we are heading due west to International Falls, MN. Then to Ely, MN and then back home to Lake Delton, WI. Looks to be around a 1,200 mile drive.
We are gearing up for our real rode trip in July, where we are heading out west on at least a 2500+ mile trip. We want to make it out to Vancouver, but don't know if we will or not.
I already have a SL bra that has the screen mesh over the open area in front, so I am protected there. I also put splash guards on and clear 3M stuff over the mirrors and may even do the headlights to keep them from getting knicked up on the highway.
I love driving the Corvette but sometimes the size and utility of a large truck is advantageous (my Suburban is often a necessity). Are you traveling alone...do you have a lot a gear to take with, will you be driving on many unpaved back roads, is weather a consideration, will you need to drive people around once you get where you're going, et cetera? If need dictates take the truck, otherwise the Vette will certainly be more fun to drive.

Just did a 3000 mile trip from Houston to the Smokies and back. This is my 5th long trip to drive twisties and the C6 is perfect for this. Clear bra on the black car, soft bags for packing and detail spray, window cleaner, and microfiber towels is all you need. Even driving 1000 miles in 2-4 gear at Deal's Gap, the BRP and Cherohola Skyway I averaged 24.7mpg for the entire trip.
Drive your Corvette. That is what they are for, not sitting in a parking lot with the hood up. (NTTAWWT)
I just bought a smokin hott 2008 and had to fly from home (San Antonio) to North Carolina to pick it up.
I drove 1600 plus miles and it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! It was so good, I didn't even realize the drive if that makes sense! I had a blast... on the third day, I got home, unpacked the car, went to take a shower then decided, no way! I put my shoes back on and went for a drive!!!! NO JOKE!!!!!!!!
Gas milage was a solid 27mpg the whole way!
So, yes, drive the Vette!!!!! I contemplated having mine shipped but and SO VERY glad I didn't!!!
Look up my post and read the advice the people here gave me; I heeded all of it and did great! I also chronicled my trip in the thread.

I drove 2200 miles in five days with a friend in the car, it was quite comfortable and I averaged 26 mpg for the trip even with my "spirited" driving.
Pretty sure the Sierra has the same interior as my Silverado so it would be comfortable for the long drive but the corvette would be more fun.. Its a tough choice..
The road trips I've taken in the Vette have been great. There's an amazing amount of storage space in the coupe considering it's a sports car, and the highway mileage is great. Bring along some jacking pucks, just in case. Splash guards are helpful since you won't know the condition of the roads (in Yellowstone Park we had to drive a 8 mile stretch of road that was being re-paved... it was stripped down and just gravel when we got to the east entrance). A radar detector is also a very helpful thing, since it's really easy to forget how fast you're going after 4-5 hours on the road.
And just remember... don't put anything in the center console that you don't want to be warm and toasty.
I am going on long road trip soon. I have the spandex bra. I also will tape giant areas around wheels with 3 inch painters tape. People will think its a spy car
