To me sound is an integral part of the performance car experience. I want a high performance car that sounds like one...not loud for the sake of being loud but a sound quality that imparts the true essence of what I'm driving. It’s very subjective but IMO stock Corvette’s sound positively anemic (and I understand why GM does this). The NPP exhaust option is an improvement over the stock exhaust and I applaud GM for recognizing the need to go in this direction.
Although an improvement over stock, I find the NPP exhaust ‘gimmicky’ in nature and still lacking in sound quality. The NPP exhaust is mechanically over-complicated providing a modest improvement in sound quality and only on a part-time basis. I want my car to sound ‘like it should’ 24/7. I find certain after market exhausts provide a superior (drone-free) sound quality on a full time basis with the minimal benefits to performance being roughly equal to NPP.
I know the dual mode nature of the NPP exhaust appeals to some and I note the popularity of the switched exhaust add-on so one can manually control the NPP exhaust modes. I find the need to add a switch somewhat evidences the deficiencies of the NPP exhaust right out of the box but I commend the many fine vendors who are filling an obvious demand. No disrespect intended to the many Corvette owners who like the NPP switch add-on or to the fine vendors providing a quality product but there’s something about flipping a switch to control the volume of your car I find intrinsically ‘hokey.’ When I want to change the exhaust note of my car I use my right foot.
If you want a hospital zone quiet Corvette stay with the geriatric stock exhaust or opt for the modest improvement of the NPP exhaust option. If, on the other hand, you want your Corvette to resonate like the high horsepower, high performance car it is, go with the full-time benefits of a quality, after market exhaust.

Mild to Wild not a necessity
I love NPP and I confess I do have a Mild to Wild switch but I hardly think it is a necessity or the second best thing to have on a Corvette.
With the windows up, the drone of NPP at idle and low rpms is pretty bad so Chevrolet knew what they were doing by activating it only above 2500 rpm or so.
Now with the windows down or the top off, it is fun to ocassionally use the Mild to Wild switch. While not a necessity IMHO, it is nice to have and it doesn't cost much so why not!

Quiet when: On the phone, Late night in the neighborhood, Long highway trips, LEOs watching/lurking, Mom's a passenger, etc.
Loud when: You want to play (which for me is almost always)

Save your $...Even in "wild" mode it is pretty mild. If a driver really enjoys an aggressive sound, Bullets are a better choice and they ditch the heavy mufflers and actually save you a little weight. And for all you girls out there that complain of drone, just pull your dresses over your head...

I love it. I have had plenty of loud performance cars in the past and that is no longer my cup of tea. I would rather the car be quite when cruising down the highway. But I do like when I open the car up that the exhaust goes from a quite manner sound to a very nice perfromance car sound. IMO best of both worlds. I have heard that the addition of headers makes it even better.

I'm Glad I got it.
You are concerned about being quiet but,..
keep in mind, the exhaust is quiet and does not open up automatically until 3500-4000 RPM.
At least that's when mine opens up on my 09.
Below 3500-4000 RPM is it VERY QUIET.
As mentioned, if you get the M2W switch and leave it open, it drones but I find once above 1800 RPM it doesn't drone anymore
It's a real noice sound after that and,... sounds Real Nice from 2500 RPM and beyond
These cars Criuse 80 MPH at 1900-2000 RPM
I recommed testing a car with it and without it.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and would want it.

If you have the funds get it. I just recently took my fuse out and go WILD 24/7. I can't tell you how great the car sounds from just tapping the gas. It is how this car is made to sound. Drone is apprantely a concern for some but to me this is a race car. On longish trips I'll take my Jag or crank up the tunes. Good Luck.

I wasn't looking for the dual mode exhaust but it was included as one of the options on the car I bought. I like it! Bought the Mild-To-Wild kit and enjoy opening up the exhaust and showing off at club functions.

NPP was not an option on my 2006, I ordered it for my 2008 and would not get another Vette without it!
Also ordered the M2W and now have a choice of sound intensity by the push of a button.
One more thing, ordered Ed's Son of dreams "Mild Adjustable Control Kit," and with a quick install was able to adjust the mild portion of the NPP to as high an intensity as I wanted.
NPP is a great product, but the M2W, and adjustable control kit makes it even better!

I agree with most........it is a GM/Chevrolet/Corvette gimmick. Doubt if you would recognize a 5 hp gain or, for that matter, additional MPG. But the gimmick works for many.
I have it and agree with others, wouldn't buy again without it. Unless of course, I was thinking about providing an entire aftermarket exhaust. Then it may be a waste.
Besides THIS car attracks attention. The exhaust, when "opened", adds to the draw in many instances. (what can I say....I like attention).
