Default TPMS question

I'm thinking of going with non run-flat tires and a GM inflator kit. I've noticed a lot of GM's new cars are coming this way and they have to have TPMS sensors equivlent to the C6. CTS Cadillac and Camaro to name a couple. Can you inject fix-a-flat into a tire with these sensors? I would think so since they are equiping the cars this way.

You can inject them, but in the process you ruin your tire sensor.

Yes, that is what the owner's manual states.

About a year back, I spoke to the manager for the GM Proving Grounds Tire and Wheel Group. He stated that the GM tire sealant will not damage the tire pressure sensors.

It would be good to know if any one has tried this and what the out come was.

If you were to look at one of the sensors....

....the air port goes straight through. The pressure sensing port is off to the side. While it's stated in everything GM has ever published that you MUST use the GM supplied goo or you WILL ruin your sensors, that isn't entirely true.

While the GM stuff won't disable the sensor (IIRC it's due to being water based, and easily removed if it does clog the sensing port), I don't believe that the ordinary (easier to find and much cheaper) fix-a-flat will clog it either.

I used about 1/3 can in a tire on my C5 with no sensor problems, and I currently have a can in the trunk of my C6 that I wouldn't hesitate to use if I had a slow leak in the tread. And yes, I still have RFT's.

You answered my question exactly. Showing that tht port goes straight through sure does help. Thanks for the help. All of you.
