Exactly.
Z52 is not similar to Z51 in any way. See my post #116 in this thread for the contents of each new package :

The new Z16 Grand Sport MODEL effectively replaces the Z51 option package, which will no longer be offered.

I sure wish they had left the damned front fenders alone (keep the carbon fiber and definitely LEAVE OFF the cheesy, unnecessary chunk of chrome).
Do the designers REALLY ignore all the negative comments about the chrome blob ??? ... At the very least, they should offer body-color accessory versions in the same shape to allow us to easily replace it with something more -umm- "subtle".

Same as the coupe and convertible. The front fenders are RRIM (reinforced reaction injection molded) and yes, this is the same process used in front and rear fascia.

The suspension on the GS is not the Z51 suspension. It is really the Z06 suspension except for the fact that the Z06 usues composite leave springs and the GS will use the normal leave springs like other C6 coupes and verts.

First, this is the first time I've read that the Z06 uses carbon fiber leaf springs.
Second, you are saying the Z06 shocks and sway bars are now part of the GS. I guess that actually makes some sense as they might be more compatable with the Z06 tires.
Thanks for the info Dave.

I guess it's left to me to be the voice of "counter point". While it may not seem like a lot - you can't compare it to an conversion. When you get done with a conversion, you still have two sets of fenders, two sets of wheels and tires etc. The GS parts replace the standards parts - not in addition to the standard parts (except things like the dry sump, of course).
But, I stated this before and I will again. Someone who wants a Corvette with the Z51 package is now forced to take $4,500 or so in additional stuff that they may not be able to afford. A typically loaded GS coupe (meaning with 3LT package) is now going to be a $60,000+ car.
I think this is going to hurt sales - especially in the current economic climate. Don't get me wrong, I like the package and there is a chance that my Z06 will get traded some day for a GS convertible. I just think they made a mistake by not offereing Z51 without the additional GS stuff.
On a brighter note - thanks for posting Dave. You are still the man!

My position is that if you're buying a new 50k+ car another 5k isn't going to discourage you.

I never understood how a fabric top and some extra hardware to retract it cost 4K more than a coupe, but I'm sure it must because a car manufacturer would never inflate pricing.
That being said, I think there is a GS vert in my future if they continue to make them for another couple years. I need to let the fact that I just bought a new XLR-V fade a bit in the wifes mind before I "upgrade" my 07 C6 coupe.

Not true at all. Besides a few multi-millionaires, $5000 is a lot of money to most people. Some struggle to afford the base $50000 price and then another $5000 on top would put the car out of their reach. There is no way I would have paid or would now pay another $5000 for the same car with same options (or pay $5000 for another option). There is a certain price point for most people where the car is out of their reach, and $5000 is a good bit to most. Even those that have lots of money didn't get it by just throwing away $5000 at a time.

Dave, are the parts numbers (for composite leaf spring, shocks, springs and stabilizer bars) for the Z06 and GS the same or different? If the same part number, we'll know for sure they are the same ones. If different number part number, they could still be the same ones, just with different part numbers.

When I bought my new 68 coupe the base price was more than the vert. The coupes base price was more from 63 till 75. The vert went away in 76. When the vert came back in 86 the price went up 5K from the coupe. Strange.

I bought a $78k Z06, and I can promise you that if it had Navigation on it I would not have bought it. I had intended to spend XXX dollars on my Z. As it was, I went three thousand over my target - so yes, another $2K would have pushed me over the top.
The flaw in your logic is that the first $50k might have already been $5k more than a lot of folks wanted to spend, so the next $5 becomes the deal breaker.
