Default TPMS Question

I purchased the ATEQ VT10 TPMS reset tool from tirerack and just installed my new wheels! I followed the instructions and it's not registering. Anyone familiar with this process? Thanks

Did the horn chirp indicating that the system was in the learn mode?

I use a Schrader-Bridgeport TPMS tool when switching back and forth from my track tires to my street tires. BEZ06 is the resident expert on the subject and he's made several DIY instructional videos. Here's a link to one or more of his instructional videos.

Is there a particular question? I'll check back and if I can help I'm glad to.....

Are your TPS's mounted like in the OEM wheels...close to the air valve. I believe with certain wheels the TPS's are mounted on the center of rim in which case you'd have to know where to place the TPMS tool on the tread of the tire. The TPMS tool only has a limited range to reach the sensor.

Are you sure you got the car into learn mode correctly? Assuming so, are you sure your TPMS tool is on the correct frequency? My TPMS tool has different 'settings' or frequencies...it activates sensors using 125 kHz continuous or modulated wave signals and receives both 315 MHz and 433.92 MHz signals. I know on my tool when the first light is lit that's where I want to be but the tool will also search out the correct frequency for other make vehicles.. Does your tool have a frequency search feature or can you look up the right setting for the C6?

PS If you haven't seen them I suggest you take a few minutes and watch BEZ06's videos. They're well done and give you a good understanding of the procedure.

Well I know the rear tires have an extra valve stem towards the outer part of the wheel. The fronts only have 1 vavle stem so maybe like you said, the sensor is placed somewhere else. As far as the device, it's the ATEQ VT10 from tirerack that said was for our vehicle.

I wasn't talking about a wheel having and extra or two valve stems (?). Some wheels are constructed in such a way that they can't mount the TPS right below the air valve....the TPS is mounted or banded inside the wheel. If so, I believe you have to know about where the sensor lines-up on the rim so you can place the TPMS tool as close to the sensor as possible. With some after market wheels, I believe you actually have to take the wheel off, have a tire shop break the bead and go inside the tire to locate and register the sensor. Then, remount the wheels in the proper corners of the car.

Are your sensors mounted 'conventionally'...right below the air valves?

This is just a thought...are your sensors all registering on the DIC? Do you know if they moved the sensors to the new wheels and then mounted each wheel/sensor in the same location as they were before? If so, you may not need to reset them.

I've got to take off in a minute but I suggest you watch BEZ06's instructional videos and naturally, re-read the instructions that came with the tool. As mentioned, I'm not familiar with the TPMS tool sold by Tirerack.com but I'm sure it's something simple...you'll get it.

If BEZ06 doesn't jump-in after a while, I suggest you PM him. He can explain this much better than I (and he's familiar with most of the TPMS tools out there). Good luck!
