I live in the armpit (NJ) and am tired of getting tickets for no front plate.
Seems with the crappy econcomy now they are just looking for an excuse to give you a ticket- I think breathing is going to be a misdemeanor here soon.
Anyway- I have the vararam and the front plate will block the air intake. Would the top flight be ok if I mounted it off-center so as to not block the air?

They may very well require Cap and Trade for the CO2 we exhale.
The Top Flight plate holder is shaped for the center nose of the car. In other words, its is somewhat rounded to follow the contour of the nose. It is not flat. So the license plate is actually bent a bit when mounted. I suppose you could make some spacers to keep the plate flat, but you'll have to work at it to make it fit somewhere other than the center nose.
Try the remote or manual plate from Mid Ameica and other vendors. It is mounted off center. And you can slip the plate under by using the remote or pushing/pulling plate in or out.

Read this post and you might want to remove the Vararam.

You might want to read research about how a car gets its air in the first place. Top Flight's plate doesn't block the airflow going into the intake because it depends on pressure. Even look at STS' twin turbo system. The filters are behind the TAIL LIGHTS and it can feed an engine with two screws helping out.
I live in NJ (and I resent the arm pit comment ) and don't run a front plate and have no problems. Sorry that you are getting tickets. Where do you live?

Live in Guttenberg right by NYC. Got 3 front plate tix in about 1 year by 3 neighboring towns, 2 of which have been in the last month.
Has anyone on here tried that "Show n Go" plate?
It comes in two versions manual $49.95 and $159.00 for remote control version. With the flick of a remote the plate will go up or down.
Just wondering how good this product is and is it well made and not a gimmick.
ZIP has a high quality plate mount for $144 but it wouldn't fit on my car with the Speed Lingerie front end bra so I had to return that.
Just now added a front plate (Texas requires one). A couple of pieces of bent aluminum stock from the hardware store, upside down GM JSB frame and 4 easy to remove screws is all it took. It comes off in just a second. Need to straighten a bit and paint the caps.
I may go that route unless the price of those removable ones comes down.

I have the automatic one mounted over by the passenger fog lamp, works like a champ.
