I'm glad you have such a great Father and that you realize it, i also appreciate your intrest in cool cars.... rock on..
The XLR and the C6 are both based off of a modified C5 chassis. The C6 came to being because Cadillac wanted something to compete with Mercedes. It turned out the C5 would not fit the Cadillac NorthStar V8 and God forbid Cadillac would accept a Chevrolet motor. So Cadillac paid for most of the development of the C6 because they wanted the stiff C5 platform for there folding drop top halo car. The whole frame and dimension of the C5 had to be modified to fit the much higher 32V Cadillac motor, this is why C6 looks taller than C5 because it is. This is also why you have a ZR1 because the taller motor could be fit in because of the sizing of the engine bay to fit the NorthStar. Corvette also got the advantage of Cadillacs demanding better quality of the body panels with less waves and imperfections and tighter fits than C5. Since Dave Hill was really a "Cadillac Man" and I think the whole reason why he was put in charge of the Corvette later in C5 development was to over see the future XLR not really for Corvette. To make a long story short the two cars are similar but not the same hence the two different assembly lines at BG. It would be cheaper to drop a Vette motor in the Caddie than the other way around.
