Need some help with the wife. I can't seem to come up with a really good return on investment (aside from fun) for me adding a supercharger to my already cammed C6 2005 Vert. Now that is where you come in. I can afford it, got a great deal from my corvette guy on an ECS Paxton and now have to have the conversation with her to get her to let me get the work done. They will need my car for around 5 days and she doesn't have any 5 day trips coming up so I can't sneak it... not that I would be able to hide a supercharger anyway....
Mods done already: Cammed Pkg, Headers/CAI, Magnaflow exhaust
Around 440rwhp
That's where you all come in... what's a TBone to do.... ?
Well I see it like this; you already have some mods so right now your Vette isn't stock so we can elimate the reliability factor. She obviously agreed to the prior mods (if you even told her!!) so now it's just a matter of telling (or asking) her that this mod will be much less expensive than getting a Z06. That is, if your rear end holds up. That would be my concern with going to the edge with an '05.
2. tell her you're "going green." and need to increase the car's efficiency.
3. tell her there will be "negative tax consequences" for not spending the money, namely, that you'll become listless and less productive this year thus producing less income.
I think you're gonna need to send her away for a Spa weekend with her best friend (as long as its not a dude) and when she gets home and wonders where the vette is she'll be nice and pampered and you could probably tell her just about anything......heck it might be a great time to buy a coupe you can drive in the rain!
This is Doug Heffernen's Husbandry 101
And I'm not thinking just tell her you're spending your money is the greatest idea.
This might work better, but you'll need to wait until Thanksgiving time: Slap on a set of those Forged Concave 5IVEs, and she'll be so pre-occupied with the new "look" that she won't even entertain the possibility that you also supercharged it.
Of course this may ultimately backfire in such a way that you find your sleeping arrangements much worse than the Marriott!
Let me know how it works out for you. You can be the case study for the rest of us.
Tell her it's a transmission linkage recall by GM. It has to be done or the car might break down or crash
Tell her the car will need to be at the dealer for at least 5 days to replace the linkage.
then if she notices the blower at a later date, explain to her that this is part of the linkage.

Dayem, I've been married a long time
That is a great idea BUT I would say that the SC was stock on the 05 and that the previous owner took it off because SHE didn't like the sound it produced.
I don't think there's anyway around it. She's either going to find out before, during or after the supercharger. Take the bitching up front. That way when it's done you can enjoy it without feeling bad about her being mad.
Or better yet (what i did), say it costs less that what it actualy going to cost (she might not get as mad). Then tell her something happened with the "Flux Capacitor" and it needs to be fixed and add on what the total cost will be.
God, I love a supercharged Corvette! But, if she is the right lady for the long haul, do the right thing....and its not letting her notice that new whirring noise under the hood! Good luck.
Everyone's family is different. I just don't bother my wife with all that 'car stuff.' I just do it.
This may come off wrong but in my case, I'm spending money I've earned. My wife contributes in many ways but I'm the bread-winner and the one responsible for all the finances. Most importantly though, I'm not taking food off the table to mod the car. So long as my wife and kids aren't doing without I figure what's the difference? You have to do what's right for your family but IMO if you can comfortably afford it and essentially nothing will change whether you do it or not..tell your wife you're doing it and be happy! (Just be forewarned, she may expect a little quid pro quo at some point).
She is probably aware through your everyday bragging that the car is faster then anything.
She will think your trying to kill yourself and leave her stranded if you add more power.
I recommend telling her that you are going to get some shiny parts put on the car that will make it more reliable and smoother to drive in the future. If she inquires..
mention the
1. Harmonic Balancer.
2. Engine PCM torque mgmt software (tune)
3. Springs to help the valves.
4. Some minor mods for improved airflow.
Get ready with the puppy dog eyes and claim this can be your next holiday present (Bday or Xmas early)
If she says ok... don't jump up and down screaming.
Wow... I am so pleased I posted this thread. You all have offered some very good solutions to my dilema and I also have a lot in common as I already got the cam covered and told her it was a dyno tune and the car would sound a little different, lol... so that one is used up but you all gave me some good stuff....
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
