Got the MGW shift kit, but I needed a ****. After reading all the posts about a heavy ****, I decided to try "making" one. Thought it would be fun to grab onto something I made each time I shifted. This one weighs in at 1 pound 2 ounces ... it started out as a 2" stainless steel trailer hitch ball. I cut it down with an angle grinder, and a local machine shop drilled and tapped it for $10. Fits the MGW shifter perfectly. Total cost was $20 plus a bit of running around.
Notice anything funny? How about the "Bully" and 7000 lbs. I think it's pretty cool like that.
Since I have a woodturning lathe, I also thought I'd try my hand at a hand-turned wood ****. I had a great time making one out of cocobolo and olive woods. Cocobolo (from central America) is very hard and dense, and is easily machined.
Neat way to make the wooden one match black interiors.
Place a bunch of iron nails (or any iron metal bits bits) is a pail of water and let them rust for a week or two.
Place the finished **** (say made from oak) in the rusty water - the oxidized water will stain the **** black - like a black stain but will penetrate deeper.
You can do this a couple of times and then sand and seal.
