Default 05 06 Differences?

Am shopping for a used C6 and was wondering if there was much different between these two model years (other than the steering wheel). Do the 05's suffer from some 1st year production gremlins or something? I tried the search tool and found nothing.
Thanks for any input,
Eric

Eric,

No, I have an 05 and actually got some extras, like the hood and trunk liners. I have an end of 05 model so no issues with my Vert. I saved a lot of money by buying mine with 10k miles from a private party, I used my savings to mod the heck out of it, its now a beast monster, looks great and I can now put all the mileage I want on it and enjoy it...

If I were buying again, I'd still look at 05's then go to 08's if you could swing a great deal but that's about it. The 05 rides great, I have the Z51 package, and loaded NAV all the trimmings and got myself a nice skull shifter....

If I had to do it over agian, I do the exact same thing... great car...

The 06 has a strengthened rear end. GM supposedly solved the DBS problem but you'll get different opinions on that. The XM wart was removed from the top (good riddens)! I believe the Nav unit is slightly changed but not 100% sure of that?

There are other slight changes but nothing of any significance IMO unless you want an auto trans. The 06 has the 6 speed auto while the 05 the 4 speed..........

If you're looking at getting one with an automatic transmission, there is a significant difference between the two as the 05s got the 4 speed automatic while the 06s got the 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

I love my 05 MN6, but you will have to always put it in Reverse in order to shut it off. For me, it's no problem, but if you take your car ANY WHERE for service, they will always kill your battery. I have told the tire store, the dealership, the body shop...All of them, "YOU HAVE TO LEAVE IT IN REVERSE", they still don't do it! GM should be shot, for making the 05's like that! That has got to be the Dumb"est" thing any car company has ever done!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, having to leave the side glass down or door open to properly close the rear hatch because of no interior venting. I don't know how you design and engineer such an awesome car and then allow stupid things like that.

Big difference in the interior is the steering wheel... 05 has the 4 spoke and the 06 3 spoke... but if you do not like the 4 spoke can covert over to the 3 spoke. I did this when I decided to have a custom DSV wheel done. Also, you can pretty much change out interior to whatever your liking... I liked the leather wrap/CF center console over the OEM 05 console and is easy to switch out.

I have an early (#6545) 05 Z51 6sp and have had ZERO problems with the car... no DBS, no tops flying off etc.

Here's a visual of the "doughboy" steering wheel in the '05s (courtesy of talon90):

There are improvements made with every model year and generally speaking you're better off buying the newest model year you can afford. If considering a 2005 or 2006 C6 I'd check the service history carefully to make sure the painted roof recall has been addressed; make sure there are no starting/battery/electrical problems and with the 2005 make sure it's out of the VIN range for the crank bolt pulley problem.

I suggest you check the forum C6 FAQ's page for further information. I'd perform my due diligence when buying any used car but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2005...my 2005 has been incredibly reliable and trouble-free. FWIW I wish my 2005 steering wheel was slightly smaller but I prefer the 2005 'Doughboy' steering wheel to the steering wheel in later models.

I've had 3 C6s and have never had this problem. There's something wrong with that car that other C6s don't have.

All C6 coupes (except the 2006 to 2008 Z06) have an auto pull-down latch mechanism. If it's working properly it will pull the hatch down so you don't need to open a door.

The 2006 to 2008 Z06 did not have this feature to save weight, however GM added it to the Z06 in 2009. C6 verts all have the manual latch as in the 2006-2008 Z06.

Something must be wrong with your automatic latch. There's a 15 amp fuse in the passenger footwell fuse block that may be blown.

The 05 is not idiot proof. You need to put it in reverse or else the battery dies. Remember to put it in reverse or the battery dies. Oh, and put it in reverse or else the battery dies. The only other difference is that unless you put it in reverse, the battery dies.

Really, DBS is actually just BS. Put it in reverse. Is it really that hard?

Thanks all for the info. Is the 05 more prone to wheel-hop and posses weaker gears?
