Gads don't even start with the Subaru. I live in the Peoples Republic of Boulder and the typical car is a Subaru station wagon. They are everywhere! And most of em have Obama stickers on the back - wonder if that was a dealer option last year.

There have been many hybrid models of non-hybrid cars that have not sold all that well, and believe this or not, but there have been studies backing up my statement here - they have not sold well because nobody knows they are driving a hybrid.
Many people who buy the Prius are buying it to make a statement about how eco-friendly they are. That is not to imply that they don't care about it's economy, but they still want everyone to know it.

Actually my wife drives the Prius and I can tell you she doesn't have a chip on her shoulder nor does she judge others for driving a Corvette.
As for acceleration, it's faster than you may think and it's 0-60 time of 9.8 is actually faster than my 4WD Ford Explorer.
I once thought the batteries were an issue until a friend of mine who writes technical articles for salvage industry enlightened me to the fact that the car as a whole is 85 percent recyclable and more than 95 percent of its materials are recoverable including the batteries.
My wife gets 51 mpg with hers and loves the car. Super reliable and smooth to drive. You guys need to get over yourselves. Geeze.....
