I'm sorry but I feel that way.

Unless you have F1 technology like in Ferrari's or Porche's PDK, SMG's etc.. normal auto's just cant compare with a true manual 6spd tranny.
Sure, auto's can be quick and convenient but to me, a 6-spd gives you a more "connected" driving experience.

Same with motorcycles vs scooters.. If auto's work that good, why don't they use auto's on a MotoGP superbike.. or in F1, WRC, etc..

I say save the auto's for the GT's, SUV's, family sedans, luxury cars, mini-Vans, etc.. true sports cars need a traditional manual tranny or a automated-clutch Manual tranny.

just my 2 cents.

I love my C6 M6 but think some guys just love handling sticks way too much! I must admit, that it sure is sweet smoking a C6 M6 in my SL65 while drinking a coffee. I know, I know it is more manly to be handling a shaft. I think some stick guys would issue muzzle loaders to their SWAT teams rather than autos!

As for some other posts, I think some of us need to lighten up a little no...?!?

This is a Corvette forum not one in which we are discussing life or death situations...

I don't know why A6 owners like their automatic with 60's Dodge inspired push button shifting-boy talk about going retro

Yes, I am one of those old school people who believe that a sports car requires a stick; however, I realize that many Corvette owners don't enjoy the thrill of the twisties preferring the allure of cell phone usage while driving leisurely through the maze of the urban canyons. A stick allows you to enjoy the thrill and beauty of a well executed heal and toe down shift while traveling though the twistie bits-no, this not the realm of Neanderthal drag racer or the owner who only enjoys seeing their reflection in a downtown window. No, the stick transcends the mind numbing point A to point B existence that an automatic brings to the table-and tell the truth, aren't there times when you really wished that slush-o-matic was a real stick!

Mannnnn I know if I was in war I would want a semi auto where I would have to pull the trigger ever time I want to gun to shoot instead of those ***** hold the trigger and it sprays bullets everywhere me having to pull the trigger each time puts me in a more connected state with the gun.

Hey that guy went from talking about street cars to track bikes and F1 cars.

It sue doesn't seem that way . . . I think the opposite is true. The manual versions never need a tune, either.

well don't forget to tell them about... what did mike g. say... 600 hp TT but of coarse you need more HP with an auto it eats more{drive train loss} and more heat and weight!

Wow...lot's of opinions on this topic.......AGAIN!!
For me it comes down to this; if my Vette was a daily driver, I'd probably go auto. Traffic is hard on a clutch and a PITA. Since it's not a daily driver, I absolutely had to have a manual trans. There is no comparison to the driving feel and fun of driving a stick.

This is always one of those debates that will never die.
I always had a stick, lots of fun and cool.
If todays Autos were like days of old I'd still have a stick.
But today's Auto trans are nice.
Are they top of the line F1 technology? No!
But they are great for what they are and I really like my new A6 Trans.
I like the Sticks too, just don't want one

Maybe GM should have some kind of Badges on the car so we would know if it had a Stick or an Auto.
We could tell them apart just by looking at the car.
Then we would not have to wave if we didn't like the other guy having a trans that was not what we liked.

To each his own

Break it down in which ever way that you need to in order to make yourself feel better but it comes down to one single question. Do they have clutch pedals in those car? The answer is "NO THEY DON'T". Which puts them in the classification of being an automatic.....

They do, sort of. If you pass a guy wearing a satin jacket, gold chains and looks somewhat insecure about his sexuality, he's driving a manual. Also look in the cargo area for a tube full of animal print bikini briefs.

They are NOT auto's they are air operated manuals, pneumatic cylinders operate the clutch and gear selection. an auto like yours is simply a hydraulic pump

I guess it's just in my driving DNA to really enjoy driving a stick on the open road. I wasn't really been impressed by the A6 Vette I drove (a used '06). It just wasn't quite implemented in a way I really enjoyed. Maybe it is better done in the newer Vettes.

I did enjoy the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) that my '03 Audi TT had. It was just crisper and better set up.

With a larger % of Vettes being built with automatics, I would say this subject forum certainly has a larger % of manual drivers in here. Postings % are a little bit "Bass Ackwards", but I know enthusiests seem to prefer the manuals.

I'm definately an oddity. in here. I would only consider a automatic for myself now-a-days, and my car is not a daily driver. I'm quite capable of shifting as I've owned many manual tranny cars. I'm not a speedster, never will take my Vette to a track, or produce a "burn out". Just not my style, but those that do drive a manual, and drive your car that way, kudos to you, I enjoy seeing that, but not with my car.

Please don't write me off here, but this is what my Vette is for me.:
It's a great styled car, unique, and not every one has one. I like the way it looks, and drives. I enjoy a relaxing drive, with no need to shift, cruise with the top down on a nice day, and a run into town with my wife for dinner, and I smile all the way. My wife can drive a manual just fine, but she also prefers the automatics now. We are in our late 40's, so age and physical issues do not prohibit us from a manual shifter, just a simple preference that works better for the way (odd as it may seem for a Vette) we drive.

For all you manual drivers, and those of us automatics..... cheers to a great ride.

Nicely said.
I'm in the same boat as you however nothing would change my mind and put me into an auto trans except if it were a daily driver. So. Ca traffic isn't condusive to manual trans.
