My experience has been the owners of Hondas, Subarus and the like with ground effects, fart cans and huge wings have nothing left for real performance.
I am in no way saying or endorsing street racing. Just sayin' that the ones to look out for are the stealth ones with little on the outside
i frequently run into problems driving my vette. every kid with a fart canned civic revs his/her motor at stoplights....folks try to keep me from merging ahead of them on the interstate...that doesn't mean i always let them.....
I don't really have an issue with other drivers tailing me, as I'm sure a lot of them think "Oh, that's an expensive car, if I hit it, my insurance will go through the roof."
But, I do get the other drivers who feel the need to screech their tires or do a track launch once the green light appears. Its ok, I just go on my way at a steady pace smiling to myself
well I'll chime in -- yes when I'm driving around town in my Velocity Yellow Z06, it brings out the retard in more than a few people. I go my speed, and people assume I want to race them, ive had the typical ricers tailing me and all that, not THAT bad though.
I get tons of looks - its so amusing to notice peoples heads all on my car at light or, tracking me as i turn.
The weirdest story I have is not even when I was in my Z06, but was driving back from Houston thru Waco to DFW in my 4 cylinder 2002 S10. As you can imagine this thing is slow, and nothing special. Well I'm going north on Highway 6, I pass an older suburban with a whole mexican family in it. Apparently I wasnt allowed to go faster than him so he leap frogs me flipping me off and damn near jumping out of his window at me, then blocks the left hand lane on a two lane road (18 wheeler was in the other lane)
So I don't know what the guys problem is, finally I get around him again, my exit is coming up he starts riding my tail BAD.... i mean I'm going 85 and he's damn near touching my paint. My exit is coming up and i take it, he follows. I don't know what he's planning at this point. I'm in my S10 and thinking well if he rear ends me no big loss really. I slam on my brakes hard because it's an exit ramp and im about to go into 45mph traffic.
Next thing I see in my rear view mirror is him locking his front brakes, smoke spewing everywhere and him swerving to miss me and it looked like it went into tripod mode for a moment. He finally must have realized how F'ing stupid he was for harassing me and almost rear ending then flipping his car filled with kids. He pulled over to the side of the road to probably clean his pants and I just kept going about my business.
People are nuts - thank god for living in Texas and having a CHL license :-)
I think young Vette owners like myself get messed with alot. They see its a young guy driving and they wanna race or whatever (I'm a young looking 34 by the way). But when they roll up to someone in their 50's and 60's they kinda know your not gonna bite. Just my personal theory.
I was stopped at a light and had a kid in a beautifully customized Honda next to me. I really like what some of these kids are doing with their cars. It really is not much different from what we did as kids, except we did it with eight cylinders. Anyway, he's looking at me and goosing the clutch. He's so busy looking at me that he failed to notice the truck in front of him. He went under it's bumper. I had to laugh. There went what had to be a $15k paint job. Hope he learned something that day.
All the time. My wife rarely rides with me, and has heard my stories about this, but on a ride thru Connecticut on Rt 84, this guy in a small box type Nissan suv would not leave us alone. Boxing us in, tailgate, pass us and slow down. She was ready to call the State Police on her cell.
This kind of thing is regionally dependent really.
If you were to cruise around the Crystal Cove meet by my cousins house in California, a Ferrari doesn't even get a second look there unless it's an Enzo, GTO, etc. Ferrari's in that area are a dime a dozen.
We don't have nearly as many F cars in Texas but Corvettes are pretty much a dime a dozen. You might get a thumbs up or some crazy ******* trying to race you but I've owned 6-7 cars in the last 5-10 years and they've all attracted their fair share of idiots.
A ZR1 would certainly raise an eyebrow but it's rarer to see a Ferrari or Viper around these parts. I see several Lambo's almost daily though. Very weird.
may have something to do with my age too. I'm 30 and don't look a day over 21. haha

Same thing happened to me the kid hit the NOS popped the clutch to race me I ignored him. He also hit a truck at the next light. When I looked in the rear view mirror a very angry trucker was on his way to chat with him. The skid marks were about 25 feet so the cops could easily read what happened. He was not hurt but his ricer was.
It used to be fairly common for people in all kinds of vehicles to stomp the gas when next to me at a light. A few months ago, I put a high performance cam in the car. Now it has a noticeable lope and the car shakes a bit. Very loud at idle. People rarely stomp the gas any more when next to me at a light. Perhaps they are somewhat intimidated by the car, or just want to watch and see what I do. Although I can't say with any certainty why...The change in motorist's behavior has been very noticeable.
It doesn't matter where you live or what you drive, crazy drivers are everywhere. Driving a high performance car does, however, invite street racing challenges from others...it's inevitable. Consider it a compliment and let them go. If you want to race take it to a track.
BTW the stretch around Kingman going to Vegas is insane...despite the highly visible HP's people flat haul-***.
I have wondered about this for a long time. My Melenium Yellow attracted every weido and LEC type everytime I drove it. Lucky for me I sold it and got a Machine Silver Metalic and that calmed it down alot. Now I have an Artic White and things are good. Some of it is the vette, but I think alot of it is the colors. Yellows and Reds drive people absolutely insane. At least where I live. White is great...
Funny you say that I always say when I get a Vette it will be silver or black partially to give it a more stealthy appearance.
I think part of it is who is driving as well. My 24 yr old son gets a lot more attention driving my car than I do. They seem to ignore the old gray bearded one having the late life crisis....
Although I hardly drive my Vette , but I still see that it does attract drivers who want to race , once a red Pontiac actually made an illegal U-turn and then started to tailgate very closely , then moved to the next lane on my left and tried to race , once he realized that I am not going to participate , he took off and I saw him making another U-turn to head back to where he was going.
You know, surprisingly enough I haven't had any idiots bothering me lately. I do tend to get away quicker in the traffic and maybe that has something to do with it. Or, maybe they don't think that they want to mess with Jake . . . .
too funny, for those of you who commented "I speed up to get in front of the other car to switch lanes", why didn't you JUST SLOW DOWN and get BEHIND them to switch lanes????
