Default Need Some Help

I have 2 C6's (one is the wifes) and have noticed the same problem with both of them. Both are 3LT's which probably makes no difference, but after parking and shutting off the car I have had both of them do the same thing. After sitting for about 10 minutes the cabin fan turns on by itself and I have to get in, switch to acces mode and then back to off to shut the fan off. Nothing on the dash, lights etc are on. It's happened with both cars so I'm thinking there is an inherent problem. Has anyone run in to this situation? If so, is there a fix? Thanks

The cars aren't 08's - one is an 05 the other an 06

I presume since you go back in and press it to access. mode, you didn't leave it in access. mode when you first got out. My answ. no, I've never had that happen. But you have in both '08s, very strange.

It looks like a trip to the dealer...

Sounds like the A/C Afterblow feature is active on both cars. I don't know but maybe it's something that was done for all '08's and newer. Anyway there have been many discussions here about A/C odor due to mold in the condenser (cars older than '08??). One of the remedies is have a dealer activate the Afterblow feature to run the blower to dry the condenser after the engine has been shut off. Here's a thread discussing it and post #4 shows the procedure. IMO you don't have a problem but....I don't know for sure.

OK, not both '08s. After-blow feature for a/c, glad to hear that's a solution for a/c odor. Considering our allegedly fragile battery/charging system, that's a heckuva solution to implement, imo.

I've had both an 05 coupe and an 06 coupe, both 3LT. Neither has done this. I do shut the engine off with the A/C still running on AUTO, but it shuts off completely when I turn the engine off.

Have not seen this problem in my '08 with 3LT option. I make it a habit of hitting the "snow flake" button after using the AC. It turns off the compressor and prevents odors. I drive the car a few blocks in this mode before shutting down. Hope this helps.

When it happens, you need to just watch it and see how long it takes to stop...if at all. If its programmed, it will only run for a couple of minutes. Did it start doing it after a trip to the dealer...he's the only one who could have purposely programmed it to do this. ( well, a very sophisticated friend maybe but you would have known about it)

I just happened to be in the garage and heard this noise start - thought it was coming from outside at first then realized it was the vette (06). A couple of weeks ago when my wife and I went to the gym we got out of her's (05) and started to walk away and heard the blower still running. Really weird. In both cases nothing was on, lights or otherwise, in the car when I got back in. Neither car has been to the dealer for awhile so don't think it's that. I talked to the dealer and they said if it doesn't do it when I bring it in they won't be able to find anything.

I guess if it does it again I'll see if runs and shuts it's self off. My big concern is battery drain.

Are you sure it's not the cooling fan in the engine compartment?

Les, does your cooling fan run after you shut off the car? Mine doesn't. At least I don't think so.

Mine comes on very seldom and I've never heard it after shut down but I have heard others (not Corvettes) in parking lots running with no one around.

Yes, I think you're right, even going all the way back to the MGBs that used to have cooling fans still running after the cars were shut off. Of course, those cars were not necessarily running, just the electricals were.....

But yes, on a more serious note, there are cars where the fan(s) run after the car is completely powered down. I just can't recall mine ever doing that.

The afterblow is enabled if this occurs 45 minutes after ignition power off. It is a good thing.

________________________________________ ___________

Afterblow Enabling
The afterblow mode can be enabled using the scan tool. The afterblow mode allows the blower motor to operate after the engine has been turned off. This operation of the blower motor dries the evaporator core, which reduces the amount of microbial growth which can create undesirable odors.

Use the following procedure in order to enable the afterblow mode:

Connect the scan tool (Tech 2)
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Select HVAC Module.
Select HVAC Systems Automatic.
Select Special Functions.
Select HVAC.
Select Afterblow Option.
Select ENTER to enable the afterblow.
When done, use the soft key to save changes.
When afterblow has been enabled by the scan tool the blower motor will operate between medium and high speed for 4 minutes after the engine has been turned off.

The following conditions must be met for the HVAC module to operate the afterblow:

• The outside air temperature must be at least 21°C (70°F).

• The A/C compressor must operate for more than 2 minutes.

• The engine must be turned off for at least 45 minutes.

• The system voltage must be at least 12 volts.

That's a great feature. I wish mine did that. It's interesting that both of the OP's Corvettes do it. Is the scan tool the Tech 11?

I'm sure it's not the cooling fan for the engine. When you open the door you can hear it in the cabin. The other thing about this is if it were the AC afterblow wouldn't it do it every time you shut the car off with the AC on? I the case yesterday my car had been parked for about 15 minutes before it started. Maybe it's possessed !
