I am interested to know if this is possible. Hopefully not. Any unscrupulous valet can buy one fob and then program it to each vette that comes through...take down the registration address from the glovebox (why we have to carry that I don't know but that's another issue) and go on a hunting mission for an ungaraged vette.

I had my vette stolen from my driveway...so I'm sensitive to this issue..don't think it couldn't happen. And park your Vette in the garage like I now do if you can.
The valet would have to have the metal key to program fobs...the '08 fob is specifically designed so that he only gets the fob and not the metal key.

That's why I never give my metal key to a valet....

but you could still do the long programming process without the key, correct?

So I have another question...my DIC says "all FOB's detected", meaning all four FOB's are programmed. I only have 1 FOB. Bought another one, but it won't let me program it. Not sure if the glove compartment slot is working so don't want to do the long procedure for fear the slot is not working. Took it to a dealer who told me his Tech II would not program the new FOB. Now what???

Sorry, but the long procedure is your option. The procedure to check on the operation of the glovebox slot is spelled out in the instructions and requires no commitment to re-program anything.

No, the physical key is required.

If you have the message "All FOBs detected" displayed, then the slot is probably functioning. As Chris said, do the long format procedure on BOTH Fobs and they will become #1 & #2 and you'll be all set.

My car will not enter programming mode, long or short. I have tried both pulling the carpet back and manually working the latch lever and even more, i have tried closing the circuit of the female connector following the wires that are bunched with the latch cable. That for sure should do it but still no dice.

I have no working fobs. I lost my only working one. I have two spares but was never able to program them and just forgot about it... of course until i lost my only fob

OK - so it looks like i need to enter programming mode through the OBD port and invalidate all previous fobs. From what the chevy dealer on the phone was telling me, i should have the option to enter programming mode FROM the scan tool after invalidating the previously associated fobs.

SO I need to get into the "Body Control Module". I have a very cheap scan tool. I'm not sure it's up to the task but i will give it a shot when I get home from work. But I wanted to get this message out to anyone who may have had experience with programming fobs from the scan tool - if you have any tips or advice please help.

Thanks

As far as I know, the only scan tool that will allow force programming of the fobs is a TECH II, which is a GM tool that is very expensive and usually only used at a dealership. I have seen them on Ebay for sale and they are in the $2,000 range. Realistically, you need to have the dealer program your fobs and also, if it is important to you, repair the system to allow programming the normal way. If the car is under warranty, then it makes sense to definitely have them fix the system.

I finally found my key but now just want to fix the system to be able to program my spares myself.

I pulled the carpet back from the hatch latch and followed the two wires that are in the latch cable grommet back to the connector. The connector is under some tape. Checked that circuit for continuity and it is not complete. Is that connection supposed to be a complete circuit? Can anyone check those two wires on their car and see if yours are a complete circuit or not? This will tell me if I need to chase these wires and find out why this circuit is open.

The car is stock except for a nucleus ipod adapter. I wonder if that could be doing something?

I just noticed my trunk release does not function when the car is on. Neither the key remote button or the dash button will open the trunk unless the car is off.

^^^ on my car (manual) you have to have the parking brake on for the trunk release to work.

Default Can't start car.

I can't start my car. I have a 2006 Lemans blue convertible, 16,000 miles. Suddenly last week when I went to start the engine the message came up "No FOBS detected". The FOBS worked fine opening the doors and the trunk. To start the engine I had to put the FOB in the slot in the glove box. I have been using the car for a week or so like this. Tonight I decided I would try to correct this issue. First I replaced both FOB batteries. Same condition, problem not sloved. Because the slot in the glove box allowed me to start the engine I assumed it was working properly. I went ahead and reprogramed both FOBS, and now they unlock the doors and trunk, but I can't start the engine, even with the FOB in the slot in the glove box.
Any suggustions?
Thank for any assistance you can offer!

I received a new remote. The dealer wanted $85.00 to program. I followed your instructions and all 3 remotes now work. Thanks for information.

Cclive thanks for the posted instructions. I programmed my remote this morning and it was much better written than it was in the owner's manual.

Help a girl out? Programmed my third remote and it says "known fob" but it still won't work. Thought maybe I should change the battery on the fob but have no idea how to open it without damaging it and the owner's manual just says Insert thin flat object into slot. What slot?

That would be my thought...if the DIC says "known fob" then it is properly programmed to the car. I have the '07 fobs and there is an obvious slot on one corner that is best pried open with a nickel. Someone else here can help you with the best way to open the '08 fob.

One way to check this third fob is to get the others away from the car and then put this one in the glovebox slot and try starting the car. It should work there even if the battery is dead and on some cars, even if the battery is not in the fob at all.

All fobs should be warmed up before prying open so as to make the plastic less brittle. Leave it out in direct sun for 10 minutes or so.
