I took delivery of my new Corvette January 30. Bought an extra fob and could not get the "program FOB 3" message when following the owner's manual instructions. I don't recall if I put the driver's window down, however. Is that in the manual? I will try the tricks listed in this string. Will update later tonight when I try this at home.

For the fellow who asked about getting a key, please don't take this wrong, but have you removed the bottom part of you r fob? The metal key is contained inside the fob. It is removed by depressing the elongated button near the key loop and pulling on the loop. If you did't get a briefing on the feature when buying the car, it is easy enough to miss that a key is inside.

To add that fob as fob#3, use the short programming instructions at the beginning of this thread.

No, butt.....if you put your operable fob on the console and the second one in the glove box, and the door gets closed and the 2 fobs get locked in the car, you'll wish you had a window open!!!

My old fobs on my 2005 and 2006 had the key totally separate from the fob, and I carried it separate on a key chain. With the new fobs that have the key stored inside the fob, if you can't access the fob you may not be able to access the key either.

So.....window down or, if you have the newer fobs, make sure you take a key out of one of the fobs.

Bob is right...and this is the reason that I added the window down part to the instructions...a few people have had fobs locked in the car during programming.

And computers can do strange things, so having the window down is just a good idea, even if the autolock feature is not turned on.

Fred, I don't think you're applying enough pressure to your "key turn".Try turning your key, just a little bit further. Worked for me!

We found that Fred's car is a european model which does not allow fobs to be programmed without the TechII tool that a dealer has.

I'm a little confused. I've attempted this several times with no luck. Step 1 says lower driver side window then turn car off, but you mention that car will turn off in step 9. Should car be running while performing this procedure? I've been trying it with the car off.

No, the car should never need to be running at all, in step 9, I say that the DIC will turn off, not the car. In step 1, I say to turn car off only because the window will not move unless the ignition or the accessory is turned on. If the window is already down, then that's fine. The reason I added the step of putting the window down is because sometimes cars have locked themselves when doing this procedure...computers do strange things...so with the window down, you cannot get locked out. The car should respond to the first 5 turns of the key, slow, deliberate, complete turns...don't get too worried about doing the turns extremely fast. 5 turns in 5 seconds is not that fast. Keep turning the key as the car may respond to turns 7-12 rather than 1-5. When the DIC turns on and beeps, you are ready to start.

Thanks a lot for your help, I'll try turning slower. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I have been unable to get the DIC to come on. Maybe there is a disconnect between the key slot and the computer on my car, but I'm not sure how to check that.

This is the order in which I have attempted the programming, maybe you will recognize something I'm doing incorrectly.

1. Myself and current FOB in car. I turn the car off, roll down window, pop trunk from inside using trunk release button (not fob), then open glove compartment.
2. open car door, leave fob on shifter, get out.
3. fully open trunk, place key from new fob in trunk, turn many times.
4. walk away frustrated and scratching my head having once again not gotten DIC to engage.

The whole time I do this the new FOB is outside of the car. Current FOB left in the car with key still attached. I don't have any cell phones or other wireless devices near the car. I've also tried both shutting the car door after I get out and leaving it open. No luck either way.

Thanks for your efforts and for posting it up. I programmed a fob when I first got my car but that was about 5 years ago. I needed a refresher. Thanks again!

You appear to be doing everything fine...just try turning the key a bit more deliberately, making sure it gets turned all the way each time. Sometimes people are so worried about turning it fast that they do not turn it all the way. Try turning it 20 times and keep watching the DIC for a response. Good luck, most have done this successfully, but there are some cars where it is not working right and unless you try it, you may never find out about the malfunction until the car is out of warranty.

And if it turns out that you have to take it in to be fixed, understand that they can use their TECH II machine to force the programming, but what you need to make sure they do is to repair the system so that you can program it as is stated in the manual. The TECH II solution is an easy, fast band-aid approach, they need to fix the car so it works as designed, not throw a band-aid on it.

Thanks again for your help. I'm still not having any luck so I'm going to take your advice and go to the dealer while it is still under warranty. I'll try again before I leave the dealership to make sure it is actually working.

Have the manual out and the pages marked and show the service manager that the car won't do what it is supposed to do.

Default Now What?

Here's my situation. I just bought a C6 at an auction. I would constantly have to put the fob in the glovebox to get it to start.

I just did the long reprogramming. It got to where it said Fob #2. I only have one, so I removed it, pushed the acc button down again & it immediately says no fob & won't start.

Do I have to take it go a GM dealer?

Putting the fob in the slot in order to start the car does not negate the programming...if it starts when the fob is in the slot, it means that the fob IS correctly programmed to the car. I think that probably your problem is that the battery in the fob is dead. Replace it and you should be fine. For example, if I remove the battery from my fob, the car will not start and will say NO FOB DETECTED, but if I slide it into the slot, the car will start. Not all C6s will start with NO battery in the fob, but many will.

PS...what you did with the programming sounds fine..procedure-wise.
