Default Cam Question

I think I already know the answer is going to be no but I thought I would ask in hopes of someone proving me wrong. I am about to purchase a car that has some mods done to it from a dealership. The car has a cam, headers, and an intake. Just your basic bolt on. The dealer said he could get a dyno sheet that the guy had but he doesn't know if he has the cam specs, is there anyway humanly possible I can figure this out without pulling the motor apart? If not then I guess I will just have to buy heads and a FAST 92......

Find out who put the cam in. They should at least know what cam they put in since they had to re-tune the car.

FWIW, a cam is not considered a bolt-on. If I was getting a car with a cam I would make sure it was done right. Usually have to at least change the valve springs.

You should post this in the Performance or even the Forced Induction Section - more guys swim in those sections with deeper knowledge

If I can't get any of that information then I think I am going to pass on the car. It was a trade in and I have asked for the dyno sheets, specs on what was done and they can't give me anything. So we will see.

As stated earlier installing and cam is not considered a bolt on, to be done right requires a quite a few steps including IMO upgrading the valve train, matching the tune to your new specs, not to mention the R&R of the front half of engine, If you can't find out who or where the work was done, in my opinon walk away, Good luck whatever you decide,

I made it very clear to them that I need to know the details of this car, and they are working on finding out the information. I also told them that I have built several cars and that they need not try and bs me because I can spend an afternoon pulling this motor apart and if I find out they have lied to me the car will be returned. They did say the springs have been upgraded. Can someone verify this for me? This is the pic they just sent me.

IMO anytime you consider buying a used car you should get (or at least be able to review) a complete copy of its service history. This would included modifications done. If the dealership doesn't have this information or won't release it to you, I'd ask if they'd contact the former owner and inquire on your behalf. It doesn't seem like much to ask if they want to make a sale.

What does surprise me is that a dealership would sell a car with long tube headers and I assume relocated after market cats. If the car has altered emissions control components (and its being sold for normal street use) I believe that's a violation of federal law. Maybe you can get a smokin' deal? Good luck!

He said they will try and contact him, and he said it has the hi-flo cats with stock exhaust. I told him if they want the sale I want to know all the specs.
