i either tell them it's none of their business or what a shame it is they can't afford one or their wife won't let them buy one(because they'd really like it)
Guys who blatantly accuse you of owning a vette as a way of compensating for something? Most of the time I just roll my eyes and walk away, but I have this one guy who just throws in those little jabs and what I really want to do is punch him in the mouth, but can't do that. So how do you guys handle the idiots that just won't give it a rest or they just throw out the jab at just the wrong time and it gets on your last nerve? Thanks
I got the same comments before I had the vette because I had a 4 door dooley. People will try to bring you down no matter what it is that you enjoy because inside they are unhappy. I over look it most of the time, but as one member said already just agree to having a small package. Some people get real confused and it can be very entertaining.
"You're right. I am compensating for something. For not having one of these other pieces of crap that y'all are all driving and I'm not gong to lower my standards for y'all or anyone" . . . is what I'd tell them. Then I'd hand him a business card size picture of me behind the wheel, hauling azz down the highway, smiling from ear to ear while shooting him . . . well you know. If he's going to needle you, he should at least have a good reason!!!

It's been a while, but I've only had it pop up once. A woman at a gas station asked me what I was compensating for. I told her I was compensating for my large bank account, and the only fix, was to spend money on expensive cars, houses, and toys. I said, I see you don't have my problem, your driving a Ford Escort. She called me an @**hole and walked off.
I have two Vettes - a '97 and an '06, plus a Chevy 454SS PU truck, plus a collection of about 36 rifles, pistols, and shotguns. When folks ask "Why do you need so many vehicles and all those guns?" My reply: I don't need that many. Rather, I want them and can afford them - so I have them. What's your problem?
I usually tell them I'm compensating for my tiny *****, but that's neither here nor there because no matter what, I'm still getting off.
Usually at that point they recognize that I'm not the stereotypical mouth breather that buys a sports car to make up for an inability to interact with another human being and they leave me alone.
I just laugh it off and tell them it's just basic transportation for anybody that's living the good life and not wallowing in the jealous bitterness that a life such as theirs inevitably devolves to.
I pay no attention to it, I bought a 2004 F150 lariat supercrew 4x4 loaded with all the options before I bought my 06 Z and I hear the same comments mentioned in this thread.
I just ignore them and let them believe what they want.
I don't know why people even think you are lacking anything for buying a Vette. When you consider the total performance it is a smart buy. Good mpg for what it is, plenty of luggage room and of course world class performance in the speed department.
I've never heard anything like that but I can just imagine the type of person that would say those things. I'm suprised that kind of talk would bother anyone.
I wouldn't even acknowledge it.
funny thing is - the only time that I'm aware of this happening to me is when I took the car to my son's football practice - wife was already there and practice had started... as I drove in - one of the parents made a similar comment within reach of my wife's ear - and she responded - "I definitely know NOT - he is my husband" and it sounds like you may need to borrow our car from what I hear! Guy walked away... I heard it second hand from one of the coaches. That's my girl!
My Vette is my daily driver and I get it from people at work. I always tell them that I bought it for the GAS MILEAGE, which usually sends them away mumbling.
