It can be done safely! Be sure the contractor knows what he is doing and there is enough support for the roof.
Here is my solution.
Picture 1: Before.
Picture 2: Lift installed! Off the floor but not high enough to stand under or park another car underneath.
Picture 3: The solution. Take out the trusses. Note the beams as added support. These are 4x14 laminated wood beams.
Picture 4: Don't forget to insulate
Picture 5: The final product. From 8.5' ceiling to 12' ceiling.
Picture 6: Stacked Up
Warning. If you live North don't start a project like this in the winter. The cars can't be in the garage during construction.
