Default C6 question

Im looking at purchasing a C6 next yr and I was wondering if I should bypass the 05 model yr since most first yr models have certain quirks that say an 06 doesnt have.

I would go with the LS3.

By next Spring -- you'll be able to buy a low mile 2008 LS3 for less than 30.....1LT's are out there now for that price....

You will find a lot of folks here that have had nothing but good luck with their 05's, myself included. I wouldn't rule them out just because they are the first of the new body style. The model year is very reliable overall.

Bottom line, look and drive several cars and buy the one you like the best and enjoy it! Took me 4 months to find the one that met my criteria of mileage, color and features. It ended up being an 05 and I was able to keep some cash in my pocket.

Good luck shopping!

Tom

LeMans Blue was available 2005 through 2007 when it was replaced by Jetstream Blue in 2008.

There have been any number of threads on the topic that offer good info and decent reading - - I pasted a few below that may shed light.

But as the owner of an early 2005 built September 2004, the short answer is no - no reason to avoid and in fact, properly researched and inspected, a 2005 can be the best C6 value on the market these days.

Check some of these threads:

Good luck !

I would always suggest you buy the newest model year possible and with any used car perform your due diligence thoroughly. FWIW my (modified) 2005 C6 has been extremely reliable and trouble free...it's been a great car in all respects!

I tend to buy the newest out. Having said that, they're only "new" for a short while and alot of guys here have '05's and still in love.

I wouldnt get anything less than a 2008, thats when the horsepower increased, has better handling, better steering, and better shifting.

I bought my '05 new; after 4 1/2 years of ownership and 21,000 miles I'm still very much in love. If you go with an '05, there are a few things to check out but none should be deal breakers.
  1. Find out (by way of the VIN) if the particular car is affected by the crank pulley bolt recall; if so, make sure that the associated fix has been taken care of.
  2. If the car has factory navigation, find out if the firmware update has been performed. (The update allows MP3 discs to be played and eliminates a common, intermittent static problem when listening to FM.) If it hasn't been performed, you can do it yourself with CD-Rs that many here (myself included) would be happy to provide to you.
  3. If it's an MN6 or MZ6 (manual transmission), find out if the firmware update to cure DBS ("dead battery syndrome") has been performed. If not, the dealer should be willing to do it for you.
  4. If it has a painted top, find out if it was covered by and replaced under the recall for delaminating tops. Note that this recall was not exclusive to 2005 models.
As for the added power of the LS3, while it's certainly attractive I can absolutely assure you that you won't find the LS2 to be lacking. At 400 hp it's very capable, I can assure you.
