Could these be the same people who feel it is their right, nay, their duty, to hog the left hand lane and feel morally justified in doing so because they are going the "speed limit"?

It is accepted that if you blow a rear at the track everyone will say 'you have to pay to play' but will NEVER apply this logic to speeding.
Heh.

OK, I'll admit it for you: I want to speed and I don't want to get caught.

Now that we've got that out of the way, can you honestly say that speeding tickets aren't all about Big Money? On the one hand, you've got the "speed enforcement" corporations who sell their wares to the authorities who, in turn, use these devices to extract revenue from motorists.

Speeding is the one of easiest money-makers there is: everybody does it and it's relatively easy to catch somebody doing it. And, this last part is the key. There are any number of other driving behaviors that entail far more risk than "speeding". Driving while distracted, not allowing sufficient following distance from the car ahead, failing to signal when changing lanes, driving slower than the rest of traffic forcing others to pass them on the right, etc. But, with officers so fixated on catching
"speeders" (which, again, is easy) they aren't focused on the real problems enumerated above.

When everybody get serious about curtailing these sorts of behaviors, then I'll give the "we want you to slow down for safety" argument more consideration.

S - the most annoying is those who say get a V1

OTOH - the sermons do get old. But I know the LEO's here like my friends cthusker and Cor08vette are good guys looking out for us.

BTW Today I drove 585 miles and switched on the noisemaker one more time, just to be sure, and it never shut up - alarming on X, K, and Ka.

That is an excellent point.

We all know most wrecks are caused by jack asses - not speeders.

I drove 585 miles today. I only saw one po po all day - and where do you think he was?

Loop 285 Atlanta, where the speed limit suddenly dropped from 65 to 55mph. He was parked on the shoulder, car door opened - pointing a radar gun at us.

Was he keeping us safe?

No. He was generating revenue, plain and simple.

I am willing to let anyone "Test" my unit shoot me a PM, and with a deposit I will ship it too you to test for free and then you send it back when done "testing"

Have done this several times with other V1 owners....Let's just say the V1 went up on ebay within 2 days

Shoot me a PM is you want a free test drive....

I have tried them both, I sent the 9500ix back to Escort. It's a great detector but it was not for me. It's not quite as sensitive as a V1, but not too far behind, and the GPS features make it very quiet on frequently traveled routes. But on Instant On (I/O) radar and Quick Trigger (QT) radar it lacks way and I mean way behind the V1.

I run 2 detectors in my Vette, a 9500ci and a 812 version V1. The ci is the only detector that actually beats the V1's performance, and it usually wins by a big margin. But it costs 4 times what a V1 does so it should win. It also has the same I/O and QT problems of the 9500ix. This is due to the filtering algorithms used by Escort in their attempt to have a quiet detector.

The DPS features of the 9500ci and 9500ix have also been documented to lock out real threats from LEO's and one member on another forum I am part of has actually gotten a ticket because of this happening. I hardly think the 9500ix is a V1 killer, a good detector yes, a quiet detector yes, a V1 killer no.

Actually it was a laser gun, no radar within 40 miles of ATL.

Texting and talking on cell phones while driving is far more dangerous than speeding, but speeding is easy, quick and provides plenty of $.

The traffic court in my county last year generated $16 million dollars in fines. That's big business!!

Phew, dodged a bullet on that one. There is also a current thread about the V1 and Escort (well, there is ALWAYS a current thread on that topic) and my response as a V1 owner was that neither was going to save you where the other couldn't. They both will give you plenty of warning so it comes down to feature choices and intended use. Personally I would feel equally as comfortable with the Escort.

I was in LA last year and my O my was there traffic. Peole were driving 80mph bumper to bumper. Not safe.
I drive the freeways of So. Cal all the time and people are not generally driving 80 bumper to bumper. First off, it's hard to find traffic reduced enough to go 80! Second, when you actually can, I'd say it is rarely "bumper to bumper". Now having said that, people do tend to drive as fast as they can mostly because they have been going 5mph for hours in real bumper to bumper. When you can finally break out of that for any distance, you go! This includes mom's in minivans AND the police. So if you are clogging up a left lane you are right in that people will ride your tail; however, that is true anywhere. In fact, I find the tail riding to be a bit less here because in LA traffic you can go from 80 to 0 in heartbeat due to congestion. Anyone that has been here for any length of time knows to give a wider berth due to this.

Default Update

Well I called Beltronics a few weeks back and they told me to send it in. It was repaired under warranty. Today was the first test. I was quiet the entire time except for once when the po-po was driving in the oposite direction and Ka band went off.

Looks like it's fixed ! .

Drive a beat up 73 GMC pickup. If you go over the speed limit the LEO's will stop to see if the accelator got stuck on you.
