Escort vs. V1
However I've since sold both, since here in MI if you stay under 5 over on roads and under 10 over on the freeway the cops seem to leave you alone (and really who needs to drive that fast).
The main reason for my selling was I was sick of the beeping (and I had X band off on V1).
So I guess I'd say the following, best protection get a V1. If you want really really good protection without annoying beeps all the time get the Escort.
Past: Vector 985, RX 65, a couple Bel "express" units, ZR3
Present: X50 Rev 5, 9500ix, SRX, V1 3.864, ZR3, ZR4, LP 905 (Tied to the 9500ix), C100, STi-R
The Valentine 1 is a great radar detector with good technology.
The 9500ix is a good radar detector with great technology.
I run my V1, (and an STi-R, and C100) on my 350Z, where I need more protection and less quiet. I use my 9500ix in my work vehicle, where I never (knowingly) speed, but need quiet.
I am such a gadget geek that I drive hundreds of miles to meet other people that have police radar and laser equipment so I can spend hours in the hot sun testing this stuff.
Here is a little local test I did (most recent) by myself against a K-band speed sign.

If you don't want to sit through all of it...The 9500ix gets crushed by the V1 and the X50.
I watched your video... During the first run of the ix/V1, I noticed that the 9500ix alerted at slightly later than the V1. The problem with this test is everything needs to be the same in order to judge distances alerts.
For example: If there was something in front blocking the radar sign, the signal emitted would be dispersed and distance will be shortened. If you notice in your video, a row of vehicles are passing just as you start to receive an alert. The two of the 3 are high profile vehicles, included a large van. This row of vehicles would have been close to the sign at the time you were in the same spot as the V1 alert. They could have blocked some of the signal from the sign.
On the V1 run, there were vehicles but they showed up later in the run. The radar emitted from the sign had a clear open sight during the early run of the V1.
You need to run the same test many times under controlled conditions to get an accurate evaluation.
I liked your video and you did a good job.
I’m sure there’s room for improvement in the ix and I would like to see the V1 get with the new technology. IMHO GPS is the future of detectors.
Ben, OHThis is just a little dig .. V1 guys don't get angry
OLD TECHNOLOGY

I've got to get off this subject
It's not that the 9500ix is a bad detector. It's just that it doesn't detect radar as well as the V1 does.

Have you tried to mark that sign using your 9500ix "mark location" feature? I would be interested in how soon the ix would alert you to a posted radar trap.
We have a couple of places where I live where the locals set up laser and I plan to mark those with the "mark location" feature to see how it works.
BTW .. I do like the 9500ci also. I see that ROUSH Performance is installing the 9500ci in their cars.

Happy New Year

Moved to Washington state and all that changed. The police here use "instant-on" laser and it only took about two months for my first citation. The V1 did a fantastic job of telling me I had just been clocked and should slow down to receive my ticket. I sold it on Craig's List shortly thereafter.
