Recently purchased a brand new glass top from a Forum Member. The seller had UPS ship the top(insured) in its original box from(with the original packing from GM) and asked the shipper to put more packing in just to make sure and paid extra for it. The top arrived here to me damaged. The seller filed a claim with UPS, an inspector came out and examined the top at the buyers residence and agreed, that yes it was damaged. Now, UPS will not honor the Claim on the Insurance that the seller placed on the top! UPS claims it was not packed correctly.....???
So, before you ship something as expensive as a Glass Top, better find an alternative method...

I think you should file a small claims suit against UPS. What was their reason for not paying?
They claim it was not package properly and their store did the final packing after the seller dropped it off.
I would tell UPS I want my money and they can get it from their shipper that packed it wrong. Don't roll over, that is what they want you to do. I would even take them to court if they did not pay based on improper packing when their agent packed it.
UPS will almost never pay for damage and if they do, its only after a long fight. My 3LT drivers seat was damaged by UPS. UPS also packed it. Our shipping department advised me to take it home and repair it, if I could, as filing a claim would only provide me prolonged aggravation and no payment. I think UPS' philosophy is along the lines of OSHA's - the fact that there was an accident proves there was wrong-doing, only in this case it's the fact that it was damaged proves it was not packed properly.
Our government spends billions of dollars to develop stealth bombers, but they could save all that money by simply having UPS deliver the bombs and no one would know. We frequently find packages on our doorstep, literally right below the doorbell button, and UPS simply drops them and leaves.
A friend is a licensed firearms dealer, he walked out his door one night to find a shotgun box that had been sitting there for a day or two, "Adult Signature Required".

Received damaged CCW wheels once. UPS Made me jumpe through hoops and finally i just gave up. Never used them again to ship parts. I strictly use Fedex Ground now. Good luck, you should go after the UPS Packing store that sold you the insurance, UPS Itself is lose lose proposition.
I am convinced that anything can be shipped, and can arrive in perfect condition. The key is in how it's packed. I would NEVER have one of these ups stores pack anything that I ship out. If you want it done right, then you have to do it yourself. Some of these stores are notorious for putting a 24" piece in a 24 1/2" box and this will not give corners enough room for plenty of bubble wrap and protection. Another mistake people make is using the packing peanuts to pack stuff. You should almost always use bubble wrap and plenty of it.

You're sure their store did the packing and they won't honor it? That sounds almost too wrong to believe.
Yes, I would pursue this one, or the seller should. But, maybe like Jim Schindler's thread re XM, the big cos. just hope you won't pursue a matter that takes forever to collect. Horrible, I've never heard this about UPS.

yep but UPS policy is if you pack it they wont guarantee it so you get screwed either way..and they have an outside agency do the inspection.....NOT UPS...
I believe if you have 3" of packaging material around the object you are sending then they will honor the insurance. I always take a pic with my camera phone before sending.
I have always been told by everyone thats in the same business I'm in: "If you want it to arrive in one piece, dont ship it by UPS" They seem to break everything. I never use them. plus deliveries take forever!
