Broken Clutch Pedal Spring
#21
Well, add my car to the broken clutch pedal spring club. I found one part of it on the floor mat a few days ago, and thanks to the forum, knew what to do. The dealer took two days and $12.50 for the replacement part and I followed these instructions:

Back to normal.

I replaced the clutch pedal return spring in my 2006 with a C5 spring 5 or 6 years ago looking for better pedal feel. I did not notice much, if any difference, but left it in. Recently, the C5 spring broke and, being a packrat when it comes to car parts, today I found and put my original 2006 C6 spring back in. We'll see if I notice any difference this time.

I replaced my spring with a C5 version before I hit 1000 miles (my original C6 spring is still intact and in my parts box) and got much improved clutch feel with no negative repercussions. Spring cost under $10 and I bought two spares (also in my parts box). Change took only a few minutes but I too recommend padding the door sill before you lay on it - saves a lot of pain.---John

My spring broke and i have tried without success to install it. I cannot get the spring wrapped around the back of the pedal....any help would be appreciated. For a 30 second job, its taken me a long time with still no success.

Never done it but found this tip that may help:
Just finished the install. After a failure on the first attempt, very tight and could only use one hand. I compressed and zip tied the spring. Put spring in outer holes, depressed clutch pedal, center popped in slot, cut zip tie's and done. Took maybe 15 min. tops. Thanks for everyone's help.

Me too on my '06. Noticed an immediate improvement in the clutch. Was $12 at the Dealer and took 5 minutes. Even so, I never really liked the clutch. I understand it was improved a few years later. Getting on it, it was great. At low speeds around town, it was hard to be smooth. But the C5 did make a difference and for cheap money and easy switch.

OK question. I hated my C6 clutch pedal feel so I bought a C5 spring and just replaced it an hour or so ago. However, when I crawled under the steering wheel, I noticed my C6 spring was not connected to the pedal. It was in the holes on either side but the loop was behind the grove on the pedal. So... would that have made it harder or easier to depress the pedal? The C5 spring seems to make it easier (full test tomorrow). I read that if you remove the spring altogether that the pedal is much easier, but since mine was disconnected, how is it easier now that the C5 is installed?
If I put the C6 spring back and installed it properly, would the petal be easier or harder than the C5 I now have installed?
