If you are considering this modification but are concerned about the install - Don't be! There are a couple of deep breath moments, but but all in all, it's not bad.
I got parts from Kevin at PartsTaxi and the custom harness came from Patrick, "op z" on the forum. Follow the directions and you can easily be done in under a couple of hours if you have everything on hand. I went the cut the duct route. The display is clear. Could it be better with the HUD specific windshield? Sure, but it's not blurry and is plenty bright. I have NO issue with the results.
Other stuff you will need.
2 each - 6mm nylon lock nuts with washers
1 each - bolt, lock washer, washer and nut
6 each - inline splices
metalic duct type tape
Thanks to Kevin, Patrick and Hanny. Good advice and support by all.
Time for a beer. Have a Sam Adams Octoberfest at just the right temp.
From: The Great Pacific Northwest...........I carry a gun cause a cops too heavy.
Good job
Makes me wonder if the standard windshield wouldn't be a viable option if a replacement was necessary? GM lists the standard windshield at $566.53, while the HUD windshield is $1396.
You make it sound easy...which I'm sure it isn't. However, I miss having a HUD ever since I got my C6. It was way too much more. Now, what size bolt & nut are they??
Nope, left the dash and steering wheel in place. You need to drape a towel over things to make sure nothing gets scratched, but it really isn't bad. A great set of directions makes all the difference.

Good Luck.
Can a good stereo shopdo the install with good instructions?
AWESOME,,,, and they said it couldnt be done. (doing without tearing the dash apart) one more guy who has proven this wrong out of at least 30 who i know of. Alot easier then it sounds really, The tuffest part for a guy should be the wiring which if you follow the diagram breakout its simple as well. glad it works for ya. The weirdest thing for me was having the car without it for a 1000 miles and then when you all the sudden do have it it was hard for me not to stare at it which almost got me in a wreck, lol
there is a nut and a bolt and nut if i remember right that hold the HUD projector in place in the carrier in the dash. Dont really know the size i think i just grabbed some bolts out of my toolbox. Not a big deal
I used 6mm but had to make the hole in the HUD projector bracket just a touch larger. It's probably more like 4 or 5 mm. There is a bracket on the rear of the projector for a screw and slide on tab. Some come with it, some don't.

It was easy, just time consuming.
I actually had the pdf directions printed and bound to toss around the car also.
Congrats on the install! What mode do you like? lol!
I like Track Mode 1. The G meter is awesome.
Aside from the tach being linear, is there much of a difference between 1 and 2?
