it wont be long before we know usually the end of April and the new year hits the floor surprised we havent already seen pics and heard facts about it so they can start selling them via orders
Add to this that the Mustang GT500 is getting an aluminum block, shedding 100+lbs, adding 10 more hp for 550hp total.......and the base vette looks to be falling further behind.....and the GT500 can be had for under 50K. Then the new 400hp 5.0 GT hits this year too.....
You guys can't be surprised vette sales have been tanking, the competition has got tougher and with the base vette msrp nearly at 50k, it's just not anywhere near the postiton in price/performance it was in the C6 hayday of 05-07.
IMO a base vette no longer would meet my demands if I were purchasing new, don't think I'm just getting on a base vettes case......I also find the new price for a Z06 way too high in todays market. A base vette should MSRP in the lower 40's still, at least there is more market position there to slot above the 370z/Camaro.
I don't get your logic. Corvette already offers 505 and 638hp engines. The base engine is 430/436. Compare that to the entire lineup of Mustang engines.
Besides, I doubt anyone is not buying a Corvette because of a power deficit compared to a Mustang. To get a Mustang that runs WITH a base Corvette you will spend the same amount of money on a Cobra with 540 hp, and you'll still have a solid axle Mustang.
This would be like the Porsche guys worrying that the 385 hp Carrera S costs $100 k and will get outrun in a straight line by a Corvette.

Very good point. And I don't see how any vette owner could worry about what any Mustang is doing considering the looks of a vette and the handling of the vette. There always has been a power deficit comparing the vette to the gt500 so that's nothing new. The fact they are actually going to give the mustang gt over 400hp is new but it will still be less power than the vette and a worse power/weight ratio. It will be short-lived I would bet since cafe regs will be ruining the performance of most all cars over the next several years slowly but surely.
A 'dual clutch' is not going to be 'mated' to a 6060. I'll believe the dual clutch transmission when I see it...and I would bet that won't be anytime soon.

"A pair of six-speed transmissions is offered in the CTS-V Coupe: a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual with a dual-disc clutch and a Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed automatic with paddle-shift control. Performance Algorithm Shifting is part of the 6L90’s programming and provides a performance-oriented shift pattern during sustained high-performance driving. As with many Cadillac models, the driver needs only to slide the shifter into the manual “gate” to put the transmission into that more aggressive mode."

100%...that was my point. A dual disk clutch is different than a dual clutch transmission. A dual clutch transmission is a totally different transmission...it is not just a 6060 with a different clutch mated to it. Its not really a manual trans..it more resembles the operation of an automatic. I was agreeing with you and also stating that I do not believe that GM is going to design an all new trans that is of the dual clutch type.
An article describing the operation of a dual clutch trans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_clutch_transmission
As of now, it is a very complicated and expensive unit.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
