Biggest problem in my neighborhood is with kids loosening lugs on cars left out overnight. Usually, follows when we talk to their parents about donuts in the cul desac (spelling?), burnouts, or outrageous noise from the youngsters. Several cars have lost a lug before noticing. My wife didn't notice the clicking and thought she could wait to ask me about the "funny steering feel"! Locking lugs can help, but they loosen the non-locking ones.
Shoot, they could take the whole car and not wake you! If Locks on wheels make you feel better, get them, but they'll take the wheels if they want them and if they're polite, they might leave the locks for you to reuse.
The only people annoyed with the wheel locks are you when you need to get the wheel off and shops that you take the car to for work. Honestly, it's not worth the effort to use them.
Thieves can buy the locks too and then they have the keys to eliminate all that nasty hammering.

So because 1% of thieves will come prepared and defeat a lock, you should do nothing to deter the 99% that are amateurs, kids or junkies looking for a quick buck.
I guess you leave your windows down to keep them from being broken and you doors unlocked to save the locks and the keys on the dash so no one pulls the ignition.
Well, a couple of you are really sporting major wedgies don't you?
I've had wheels stolen, locks and in a garage.
Battery stolen car locked in a garage. (I caught that one at gunpoint)
Car stolen, alarm installed and set. (66 GTO, God I loved that car.)
Astro Van stolen, Alarmed and locked. (Grocery getter but nice)
If they want it, they take it. Wheels, car, van, whatever but you guys just go out and buy those wheel locks. That'll stop those rascals for sure.
Warning: I will not miss the chance to say I told you so!
I read on a post here that someone had their wheels ripped off so I got some even though my car is usually not far from me. NAPA has some that look great.

I can't believe you would own a gun. I mean what's the point of defending yourself or your property? If someone wants to harm you or rob you, they can catch you while you are asleep and there is nothing you can do about it right?
I on the other hand own guns and wheel locks. I will take reasonable steps to assure my own safety as well as the security of my property.
I figure If I have a neighbor like you, eager to be a willing victim, no one is going to bother hammering off twenty wheel locks from my car. Thanks for being such a soft target.

The only thing soft in here is your arrogance. Of course I own a gun, I carry the damn thing too. Of course, that might not be your cup of tea but that's really your loss isn't it.
Gunpoint was a big influence in that person's choice to cease and desist.
Live in your dreamworld there fellow, some day your turn will come and you'll wonder where your **** went.
My original recommendation stands. If it makes you feel safer, get the locks. It simply doesn't make that much difference to the thief that targets your car.
I have a friend with a bone stock chevy pickup who had his wheels stolen while parked at Ikea here in Houston. There had to be at least 40 other trucks similar to his in the parking lot. Do you think if he would have had 20 wheel locks installed they would have still took his??
And that's really the point. You want to make your car a more difficult target than the other guys. They will always take the path of least resistance.

1%, really?

Bought a '66 roadster in 86. Put a $1200 Chapman alarm on it, and was then told by someone that a professional could get around it in a minute. Then put a GAS SHUT OFF valve on it. Did that with my 85 and 91. The beauty of a gas shut off switch, is that you can hide the toggle switch anywhere (not stadardized so car thieves know the system).
The first rule for the pro is not to get caught. If they have to spend time looking for a hidden toggle, that increases the time they have to spend, and the chances they get caught.

The problem is how many corvettes with custom wheels are there to choose from. Not like there is one sitting in every driveway. Maybe wheels locks will deter or just cause them to come back later better prepared. Personally I keep my car locked in a garage at all times but unfortunately that won't even do any good if the thief really wants something. I know of someone that had their house robbed while they were upstairs sleeping.
If they are good it's probably easier for them to steal your car then work on it somewhere else where they won't be caught or spotted by you / neighbors.

So your argument is: your more likely to get your car stolen if you use wheel locks??
Sir, your azz is showing. Don't be naive or a jerk. Listen to what multiple people are tell you.
Locks are a good deterrent for the amateur. A pro can strip your car in a suburban neighborhood driveway w/o waking the neighbors dog or the owners inside. Fact.
Of course it is better to have them than not.
A couple days ago, on Mitchell Hamock, I saw that shiney yellow vette with some real pretty wheels on it.

If you follow this logic out a little further, then your best bet is to remove your wheels each night and stack them by the curb so the thieves will not even bother your car.
The only problem i had w/ those wheel locks is they are heavier than a regular lug and produced a vibration in my new tires. Removed them and the vibration was gone.
ha... you've been a member for 4 months. you dont know what beating a dead horse is. Great addition to the conversation for something you know nothing about by the way.
