I had Wide Ovals as the standard tire on a '73 Firebird...F70-15...absolutely scary in the rain and like driving on Flintstone tires in the dry. Finally they wore out and I replaced them with those new fangled RADIAL tires from Michelin...what a difference.

I never have gone to the dealers unless it is for warranty work. Why look for problems?

If you don't go to the dealership, you are looking for problems. No one knows your Vette better than the dealership.
There are some great dealerships, with expert service departments. They should be the best place to get service for your Vette. If yours is not, let G.M. know about it. I love my local dealership, they are not just professional, they are my friends, really. I'm not talking sales, although, in my case those guys are fine too, I'm talking service, and parts.

Take some time to pick out, and get to know a/your service writer, and parts guy. It's like anything else in life, make friends, and you'll have friends.

IMHO that's a pretty broad statement and certainly not always the case. Some are good, some are worse than bad. There are also specialty shops that know Crovettes better than dealer techs ever will. A lot depends on where you live and what's available. Your dealer sounds like a good shop. Going to GM about it is usually an after the fact response but by then the damage has been done.

I dont understand how people can generalize about such things. There are some horrible Dealers that have ruined many cars. Even my dealer who was trusted by me lost my confidence after a couple of years and I ended up taking it to a well known independant. My dealer went belly up a couple months ago. When a business knows the're going under the service usually suffers because they dont give a crap anymore. And we know how many are out or going out nowadays.I have read alot of nightmare stories about severley damaged Corvettes right here on this forum. And reporting bad dealers doesnt work. Dealers are indepedant and Chevrolet has very little authority in policing all dealerships and at this time they're likely more concerned with staying alive.

My tire shop refused to use my jacking pucks so I left and went to West Coast Corvettes. I couldn't believe their arrogance. Even though they refused to use my pucks they wouldn't give me a written guarantee on my rocker panels. I've used this popular tire shop since 1982 and my fathers old army buddy owns it. They just permanently lost a customer who has been with them for 23 years. I've spend many thousands of dollars with them on tires, rims and brakes. Their loss and WCC's gain.

Seems like there were three tires we looked for back then...Wide Ovals, Tiger Paws and Micky Thompsons...
You forgot the Polyglas GT.

I kind of agree with you. I don't like when a novice tells me how to do my job. I'm a mature adult so I just let them talk and then I do the job properly. Unfortunately, many people are thin skinned and can be spiteful. My car hasn't been to the dealership since I drove it off the lot. The only other people who have touched my car is West Coast Corvettes. I obviously don't need to tell them their job.

There are many members here who had their rockers cracked because they were afraid of stepping on someones toes. If you mention it in them in a nice way only a jerk would be offended. Most mechanics realize that Corvette owners love their cars and go a little above and beyond and dont mind at all,.they're car guys also. Its all in how its said to them. Respect goes a long way. Unless I know the person(s) personally knows exactly how to lift I do say something, respectfully.
