Do the resetting of the window indexing for both windows after reconnecting the battery.
Close the car door. Raise the window and hold the up switch an extra 3 seconds. Release. Without lowering the window, hold the up switch again for 3 seconds. Release. Done.

Has anybody experienced this problem? If so, did re-indexing fix the problem?
Every once in awhile my car windows will not drop. I've tried re-indexing but it still gets stupid. It happens a couple times a month on average. I told the dealer about it, but if the dealer can't recreate the problem they won't fix it.

I have taken mine in with the same complaint (different problem) three times and ususally they will go ahead and fix, depends on dealer, have them talk to GM Area Representative, and things do happen (fixed).
You have to sometimes get a good relationship with Service Manager and write-up person and they will help you. I have a knowledge of cars and it has helped me because I have basically troubleshot all my car problems and have been right, they respect my knowledge and help me out.
I have been lucky, I have indirectly had write-up guys fired because they tried to B/S me in front of Service Manager and I called the write-up on it. Service manager was right there and heard consversation and write-up guy was gone when I returned two weeks later. These guys just can't play it straight, tell it right OR go find out. I feel sorry for all the people who were misled by them.

I will try your idea this afternoon. Mine have been randomly indexing and not-indexing for a couple of weeks. thanks!
I'm probably just stating the obvious, but make sure the window is all the way up before exiting the car. If it's lowered even just a little, it won't index when you open the door. I just had it happen last week.

This is why I love this forum!
So as I leave work, I go out to my car and think "What the hell. I'll try JimTN's suggestion about holding the switch up for 3 seconds extra. Didn't even touch the battery. Problem fixed! Thanks!
will this work if window won't index back up? Passanger window will index down when opening but will not index back up unless lifting button to roll window up.
I just tried it - it does.

Got int the car, turned it on, put the windows up and held the switches for about 3 to 5 seconds, let go and then held the switches up again for 3 to 5 seconds.
You could almost hear the solenoid reset. It was a very faint click.

It seems to be a very persistent idea here that disconnecting the battery will "reboot" something. Nope. All settings except the window indexing position are in non-volatile memory. Disconnecting the battery does nothing. I'm guessing that the window position sensor is critical enough but also not reliable enough so the engineers knew window indexing would be a routine maintenance item. Therefore it was not kept in non-volatile memory to reduce the number of writes. There are a limited number of writes you can make to non-volatile memory before it dies.
Thanks Fourm members, Passenger window would not Index up after door was closed. Tried the three second reset and it worked. Saved a trip back to the dealer.
Battery dead. I tried charging it overnight, nope didn't charge. Jumped it
right off, drove about 60 miles. DIC reading 14 volts. Still no charge.
I was afraid to disconnect battery for fear of having to reset everything.
When I changed out battery (had it out 2-3 hours) I found out all I had
to reset was the WINDOWS. The tire presure all read 0 psi, but came
back on its own.
My car has randomly been doing the window indexing problem over the past few months and it was scaring the crap out of me. It seemed to always fix itself, by itself, if I gave it some time.
Well yesterday it did it and had all damn day to fix itself and it just wasn't doing it.. And since I have a phobia when it comes to electrical I was more than scared now.
But then I searched on Google and came across this post and found the solution which worked for my car. Last night when I got home I had to leave the window down on my car in order to close the door since it wasn't indexing. I wake up about 30 minutes ago to it raining outside.. A bit of water had got in the car, not much thankfully, but more than I want in any of my cars. I knew I had to find the damn solution fast.
And here I am very happy at 2:53 in the morning because I found the solution and am now able to keep the rain out. Thanks allot to everyone that gave the answer on this thred. You guys kick ***!
