Here in southern California, I have the top down when the ambient temperature reaches 65 degrees. I may even turn on the heater when it's cooler and still leave the top down. The Vert is pure beauty on 4 wheels!!!
20 years ago I had to use dynamite to get my wife out of her conversion van and into a C-4 coupe. Our 2nd 'vette was also a coupe. Then (at last) a vert. Then a C-6 vert. Now I couldn't get her out of a vert with dynamite.
I have owned 6, 3 coups and 3 verts. After my first vert I never looked back. Still has the open air 50/60's sports car feeling (Jag,Cobra,MG,Vette) but with all modern convieniences and technologies. Bought this car for fun, who cares about trunk volume! Remember "when the top goes down the price goes up!"
Love em both but my first love was a 1967 427 vert!!
I agree that trunk space should not be a primary concern, but still, I am very impressed with the trunk space in the C6. My Dad had a Boxster and had to put his golf clubs on the front seat because neither the front trunk nor the rear trunk could handle one golf bag. My trunk can carry two and the car, of course, will run circles around a Boxster.
If you can get past the look of the vert with the top up then I'd go Vert all the way!
I've driven both and NOTHING beats the vert with the top down, but on the other hand I think nothing is uglier than the vert with the top up. Just my 2 cents...
Both are ridiculously fun cars, I'd also consider the climate that you're in. How many days a year realistically are you going to be driving with the top down?
Why we went with a Coupe to darn hot in Central Texas to have the top down during the summer months
Having owned both an 05 coupe and an 05 vert, I like the vert better! But there is nothing wrong with the coupe. The vert is quiter with the top up or down compaired to the coupe, the vert is easy to lower the top compaired to removing the top on a coupe. The vert is also less windy than the coupe with the top off. I think the coupe is a little "meaner" looking than a vert and yes, more room for storage on the coupe. Both are great cars, but the vert is just nicer with the top down!
I have owned Verts for over 25 years and my present is an '07. I have lived in the wintery midwest and now in semi sunny Florida. As a clear vert fan, I feel that is one of the big advantages of owning a toy sports car and differentiates between that and all the other cars out there with moon roofs and removable panels. I am also a life long motorcycle rider.....so the open air element is just part of the expectation of having a great ride!!
Vert and coupe are built on the same frame. They are equal in stiffness as the coupe does not have the windshield tied into the rear halo like with the Z06 (permanent roof).
I debated both. Went open air. No regrets.
Most everything in life is a compromise. No difference here. There is no right answer, so way out what you want.
I thought about a vert...but didn't know the durability of the top and how well it holds up to the elements (i.e. fading/wear n tear). I guess it's your call...good luck!
VERT all the way! Once you have lived with one, you don't want to be without it. However, its a personal decision on how YOU will use the car. Mine is not a daily driver, and I don't live in an area where it gets oppressively hot (New York) so I can keep my top down during the summer months without concern. IMO I love the look of the car with the top down, very sexy! Good luck whatever you choose! Either way you can't go wrong!
No regrets with the vert at all. Had a coupe before this one too. Both are nice and I like the looks of the vert with the top up or down. In fact, I significantly like the looks of the vert over the coupe.
When I purchased my current 08 CRM vert I was struggling with either getting the Z06 or the vert. Decided on vert and have been happy ever since. Even in New England this garage queen gets plent of opportunity to go topless April through October. Needs it's rest late October through March and sleeps away the winter in a nice heated garage.
