Perhaps there's another take on answering this question. I'm a ragtop guy, so if it isn't raining the top is down on my C6 Vert (it's a "toy" and a Mazdaspeed Miata is my DD). My first Vette was a 1979 with the T-tops and it was my DD at the time. After a while I got tired of taking the T-tops off for running short errands/driving to work (about 3 miles at the time) and having to lock them on when parked anywhere (T-top theft was popular here in Metro Detroit back in the day!). So, I only pulled the tops if I was going on a fairly long drive - which made the car less fun for me over the long haul. If you're only going to "go topless" occasionally, IMHO the Coupe is probably the way to go. The Vert makes the top-on; top-off proposition a lot simpler if you really enjoy "topless time"......
Enjoy,

Luckily the choice was made. The least amount of cargo space is just a benny. I am constantly telling her "it won't fit". You can't put 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag.

I feel your pain brother. I have a wife and two beautiful teenage daughters and they still haven't figured out your theory of 10 lbs into 5
Maybe we should buy them one of these..0-60 in about 25 years and it looks better than a Prius
I love my vert and I get more complements on it than anything I've ever driven. Children who don't even know what a corvette is still wave at me. It's nice. It has all the space a couple needs for a weekend away.
The only draw back is that I find that (when up) the soft top tends to absord a lot of the highs and midrange of the sound system making it sound even worse than in the coupe.
I have driven a few convertibles (Mustangs, Volvos, BMWs, but not a convertible corvette), and in all of them I felt miserable above 50 mph. All that noise and air is quite annoying: music quality is not the same, I need to shout to my girlfriend who is sitting right next to me, and I cannot talk on the phone using Bluetooth. I had rental convertible Mustang for ~1 year back in 2008, and I had top down only once. Mind that average temperature where I live is >80F.
Even my corvette T-Top off mode feels similar, but it is actually a bit quieter than the previous convertibles I tried. I laugh at folks driving convertibles with top down with 50F outside at 70+ mph at highway. They must feel miserable, but do look “cool” (more like idiots from my point of view). That’s quite a frequent site in Kalifornia. If you want a more quite alternative to convertible, get coupe with T-Tops. Personally I wish C6 came in hardtop option...
Sorry, but I would never put the top down and be "miserable" for 400 miles from Los Angeles to Utah just so that I could look cool. For me, having the top down is absolutely the greatest feeling in all of motoring. At 80mph with the top down, I am in heaven.

I must love being miserable for I always have the top down. I don't care if it's 20 degrees or 100 as long as it's not raining too hard the top is down. I once drove almost 50 miles outside of Tallahassee, Florida with a light rain. Never a drop inside.
After owning a 2006 and 2008 coupe, I am so looking forward to my GS TR vert arriving in mid April [TPW 04.05.2010]. The final decision to buy the vert rested solely IMO on how beautiful and sleek the vert looked compared to my coupes. I cannot wait for the arrival day!

Well... At 50 (groan) I've been at the point of not giving a rats azz what other people think for a long time, and I'm sure they have thought a lot and even told me a few times.
I have been checking the weather for my trip tomorrow to Laredo Tx. I think about 1000 miles ea way. Top will be down every inch of the way even at 80 or so on the interstate. I can hardly wait!
I drove both and decided on the coupe. Primary reason is that I play golf and impossible to get two golf bags in the 'vert'. Plus we travel to Pinehurst, Santee and Myrtle Beach and no way to get two suitcases and two sets of golf clubs in a 'vert'. With my top off the coupe, I got the same experience with the top down on the vert. JMO. Drive both with tops up and tops down/off. Also look at the trunk space with the vert top down. Not much there. Love the looks of the vert, but it just did not work for me. Good luck. Can't loose out either way, because the car is great!
I agree with you, I like the roofline of the Vert with the top up...but I have my top down from May through November...
1. The Vert is quieter than the coupe with the top up because the trunk is separated from the passenger compartment. Most road noise is from the big rear tires and that noise bounces off the glass and around in the open area of the coupe.
2. The C6 was designed as a convertible so the frame does not need to be reinforced on the Vert. It is one of the stiffest frames out there.
3. If you go upside down, the coupe is probably better to be in.
4. Once you put the top down and drive around a little, you may never put it up again...its the best experience!
One question on your concern of going upside down, how many times has that happened to you to make it a concern?
You would be surprised how much you can fit in the trunk. My wife and I have gone on three one week trips and fit everything we needed in, you just have to be creative. On one of the trips home we had to drop the divider between where the roof goes and the trunk to fit in some purchases. The other positive on trips is you have to limit those purchase or throw something away, that can make vacations cheaper

Maybe you drive with the top down to look cool but I drive with the top down because I love the open air driving. We did a 5,900 mile trip last year and had the top up only when it was raining.
I'll never get another coup....unless, maybe, it is the second Vette.
Exactly why I have a Vert instead of a Z06. The Z06 will be in the garage eventually, but ONLY when it is sitting next to my Vert, never INSTEAD of the Vert.
The pro vert crowd is strongly supported in this thread, and the vert is certainly not a bad choice, but I will have to say that I strongly prefer the coupe. I have both a coupe and a convertible and I enjoy them both, but the coupe is my third C6 coupe and the vert is my first C6 vert. Similarly I have had five C5s, and of them 3 were coupes, 1 was a vert and 1 was a Z06. Again my first choice was the coupe. I still have my last C5 coupe but I have sold the C5 vert.
For me the biggest downside of the vert is maintaining the fabric top. The biggest plus for the coupe is the outstanding versatility. When it comes to open air I prefer the coupe. IMO opinion it is both quieter and more comfortable with the top on or off than the vert, plus I find that there is a much broader range of temperature that I enjoy top off driving with the coupe. I am very likely to pop the top off with the coupe in late fall or early spring when I find it is still too chilly to have the top down on the vert.
Appearance is subjective and a matter of personal taste, but I also like the looks of the coupe and with the dual roof option it can easily change between three different appearances. The solid top on, the translucent top on or the top off completely all give the coupe distinctly different looks. I'm in the minority in this thread, but I'm not in the minority with regard to people spending their hard earned dollars. Coupes outsell verts by a wide margin year after year.
Clearly, it matter a personal choices and priorities, but the coupe is an excellent choice IMHO.
