Default I need the knowledgeable forum

I have lots of interst on my 09 for sale. I think i listed it too low. oh well. A couple are in California and asking me about Cali emissions. I remember when i had it built to make sure it was federal 50 stare worthy. I thought certain stickers were for this. Im pooling the braintrust on here. How and where do i find that in fact my 09 loaded vert can be registered in every state?

Thx in advance

All Corvettes meet all 50 state and Federal standards and have the normally required sticker. However, for reasons that can only be fathomed by those in CA, they require their own additional sticker that says exactly the same thing. Vettes destined for CA get it at the factory. There is a method to get it done for cases such as yours, others will chime in with the precise details I'm sure. Good luck.

There are two fairly straightforward ways to determine if a car "meets" California emissions.

The first is via the RPO decal in the glove box. If the car was built to CA emissions and placarded according by the factory the glove box RPO list will show YF5.

Cars manufactured for the New England states (RPO NE1) or specifically for California (RPO YF5) will have one of these RPO codes on the label inside the glovebox that lists the option codes. Either of these RPO's will be acceptable for California and will have the decal above on the side of the hood for California.

The second is via a decal on the passengers side of the hood. With the hood open, go to the passenger's side of the vehicle and down towards the point at which the hood comes closest to the front fender there will be a decal on the side of the hood (only viewable when the hood is open) that looks something like this:

Notice the second to last line on the decal near the bottom where it states that it is "Certified for sale in California". If it doesn't say that, you will have difficulty.

Youre not obligated to sell it at your listed price. Once I listed a car so low, that one guy called me up out of breath. When I told him someone was on their way to see the car, he offered me a $1000 above my asking price.

At that moment I decided to hold off on selling it until I re-listed it at a higher price.

a big issue the californian couple may face, depending on the mileage on the vehicle is the tax on the sale price must be payed to California if the vehicle's odomeder reads less than 7500 miles

Here are some FAQs and answers pertaining to your issue.

For a used car purchased out of state, I do not think you need either of these items. As long as it passes the emission testing, it can be registered. I own a 2005 C6 which was originally bought in Arizona and has neither the YF5 nor NE1 RPO. Neither does it have a sticker under the hood stating it is "Certified for Sale in California". I have had no problems with registering this vehicle.

Bringing a used car in to Californiaq requires that it has a minimum mileage onq the car. This is to prevent folks from buying a new car and putting a few miles on it and bringing it in as used. I recall that number is 7,500 miles. They won't even look at it with less.

You are correct that a vehicle with less than 7500 miles is considered a new vehicle and cannot be registered unless it has been deemed "Valid for California sale". I did not consider that this vehicle might have less than 7500 miles. Here is a link to the CA DMV which applies: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr9.htm.

The following quote is applicable

NOTE:California law prohibits residents or businesses from importing and/or registering a new vehicle with less than 7,500 miles at the time of purchase unless it meets or is exempt from California Emission standards. If you acquire a 49-State vehicle (manufactured for all states except California) from another state or country, you may not be able to register your vehicle in California.

Nope just a lot of conservatives here as it generally requires hard work to acquire a Corvette and those who work hard typically don't want their money taken by big government bureaucrats.

I'm glad the government is looking out for me by keeping evil polluting cars out of California...I am not smart enough to look out for myself and would prefer the government just make all decisions as to my life....I will just go to the job that they select for me every weekday at 8:00 am and be happy....
