Default Firestone FireHawk run flats

Just picked up my 2006 after having new Firestone Fire Hawk Wide Ovals out on and my first impression is WOW! Amazing how much difference tires can make. Way better ride and the noise level is incredibly lower. Can't wait to pull some g's on the WV country roads. Only got 17664 miles out of the Goodyear FI Eagle original tires. They would not pass inspection. Got them from Tire Rack for about 2/3 the cost of the Goodyears.

I'm looking foward to doing this to my '06. I've only got 13,000 miles and the original tires still have plenty of tread life.
However, the tire noise is obtrusive.
I'm considering the Firestone Wide Ovals when the time comes
and your 'review' is appreciated!

I have been satisfied with my Fire Hawk Wide Ovals. I have about 5000 miles on them. It was a no brainer for me because of the great deal that I got on the tires; $710 mounted and balanced. Some things you just can't pass up.

I have these on my '07, I have about 12k miles on them and they are still as quiet and look as new as the day I got them.

People keep talking about how quiet and soft they ride. That is fine, no criticism here, but can anybody who likes taking corners fast comment on how good they grip. My GY SC gripped like crazy (when new) and I am SOOOO disappointed with the Hankooks I bought. I read lots of reviews that said Hankooks were good, but my stock C6 can slip these crappy tires with very little effort. How do firestones compare to GY in the grip department? Not just straight line, but in the corners?

Good luck finding out...tire opinions are so very subjective. Most are comparing brand new tires to their old ones which may have been close to worn out and old. It's like some people who love front wheel drive cars - go figure! I was so confused after reading tons of tire reviews, that I just went out and bought the identical tires that came with my car when new. I didn't want to compromise the total package on my Z51 optioned car. I wish you could road test tires to get a true feeling for them.

Very subjective indeed. Im buying blind.. and going with Ventus... figuring they are going to be much better than the old OEMS now..The stock tires didnt last long before their performance degraded significantly. so onto something new.. and since they wont last long anyways.. its no big deal.. basically paying half than OEM .. Should be interesting..

The FS were not quite as grippy as new Z51 tires. Only noticed it with extreme cornering. Maybe a couple of hundredths less on the G-meter at this one turn I do into the hospital for fun.

The Firestone is a great tire. I have heard the same story from everyone that has put them on.

Definitely a tough choice I think for all, RF, Non RF, Firestone, GY, Hankook, Nitto etc...

Any confirmation on rumors that the FS Wide Ovals are not "true" run flats? How about width discrepancy, are the Ovals truly narrower than the GY?

I have them on my car and for sure they grip as good as the stock (non Z51) or better on the corners.

I just went with the Supercars again because I know they stick like a ****.
I get about 15k out of them.

Opinions are fine, but need to see some real data and maybe I'll get something that sticks better next time.

Noise and mileage aren't a factor for me, will stay with runflat tech.

In my opinion (Man this is subjective) Firestones grip as well if not better than my Goodyear runflats did on my Z51. I drove my Firestones from Pacifica Ca. to Las Vegas on Friday; did a HPDE at Spring Mountain Saturday and Sunday; drove to Willows California on Monday; did a HPDE at Thunderhill on Tuesday; drove back to Infineon for the Wednesday night drags and took the Comp rod division and then drove back to Pacifica. Firestone you should pay me for this ad.

Goodyear don't get upset. The reason I bought the Firestones was I was on a budget. A piece of stell ripped up my Goodyear left rear runflat on Highway 5 and I was able to drive your great runflat tire 150 miles at 50 mph to get me home.

Interesting comment. Even though it is subjective, a comment like this one would tell me that I need a different tire since I am on windy roads around my house every day. And, I like to drive them aggressively for the thrill,...which is the best part of my day often.

I suppose we could design some kind of poll, that even with the subjectivity, would give us some information.

I was pleasantly surprised that my experience was the opposite. The original Z51 SC tires pulled 1.1G once on a turn I do often and were normally in the 1.05 range. the Firestones did 1.1 almost out of the box and are now routinely at 1.15G. Seat of the pants says the Firestones are softer going into the turn but the meter says they pull harder in the middle. Coming from the Goodyear F1s, I think the OP is going to be VERY pleasantly surprised.

Was the $710. for 2 or for 4 tires?? Seems pretty cheap for all 4.
Thx.
