I'm using the Escort Passport x50 and for mounting I use the Voztech mount with Invisacord. I personally love it and my a$$ has been saved quite a few times and works like a charm.
There have been a few new models since I bought one about two years ago like the escort 9500 which has gps for red light cameras, etc. also. I got mine on sale for $250 shipped as opposed to the V1 for $499 which IMHO is the same performance.
Beltronics RX65 pro has been very good to me and can be had for under $250. IMHO laser detection is basically worthless as you see them way before the unit will pick it up and you probably are toast by then.
Personally I like my Escort 9500ix. Its unique combination of GPS with radar/laser detection is a quantum leap forward. Mine continues to "learn" where stationary sources are (e.g. grocery store door openers), marks them STORED, and no longer beeps when I go by. After a couple of years ownership I almost never get a false alarm any more. When it alerts, I know there's a bear out there.
And you may like an upcoming new BlendMount below-the-mirror mount for the C6.

I use the Escort 9500ix. I chose it over the Valentine 1 because of the GPS that gives you the red light cameras and speed traps. The Valentine 1 is nice because it has a directional arrow to show you where the radar signal is coming from. However, when my detector goes off I'm slowing down so having the arrow for me wasn't a necessity.
I have mine mounted to the rearview mirror with an invisicord.

Gee whiz, easy does it on a Friday nite there ssv! It's too darned expensive as it is, but don't add a hundred buckos to the standard, $399 price tag of the V1s. Please!

You know, as soon as I clicked on "submit reply" I started thinking "Was it $399 or $499?" My apologies. I'll take your advise and take it easy tonight .
P.S. I could've swore they were $499 at one point but Oh Well!!!!

Many of the accessories included in the $499...and free ground shipping. A little expensive for me, but for sure looks like the best one on the market. If it saves me one ticket it will pay for itself.

What mount? Where did you get it? Any pictures? I would like to rearview mount it, however the kit I bought came with the visor mount bracket and invisicord.

No harm, I was just pullin' your leg anyway. It really is a bunch of bucks tho. And every time you get an update, you just keep adding on. I have about a $900 V1 with all the shipping back and forth, add ons, updates and upgrade to new model in exchange for old one. It is almost like "accessorizing" a Corvette.....
i've read the thread and don't get it. I paid big bucks for supposedly "the best", in radar detection. The K40. It's installed under the front and rear bumbers, two little led lights on the dash, audio, remote etc. ($1,400) I got hit on a boulevard, the cop let me go because he had another call.
I cannot site a situation in which i detected radar early and was able to avoid a ticket! I feel ripped off and can't imagine how a $400 sytoem out performs the $1,400 system that I bought.
4 - 5 years ago, it had been more than 10 years since I'd been served a ticket for speeding. Then I got three inside of a year...in three different vehicles (didn't have a Vette yet). Given the threat of one more ticket resulting in loss of license, I orderded a V1 for the daily driver. I've not had a ticket since (knock, knock :-) ). For a while I think I was a more dangerous driver just because I was staring at my speedo instead of just driving (and annoying people behind me for not driving fast enough for them).
The V1 can be annoying when you first get it, especially the way it comes out of the box. If you spend some time programming it however, you can "settle it down" a bit. I'll add also that once you've had a V1 for a while, you get use to the way it "talks to you" and your brain learns to shrug off the meaningless alerts (cheap detectors near you, automatic door openers, etc).
I ordereded a second V1 and an Invisicord to take with us for the Museum Delivery of our '08. It's a 2-minute install. I just use the suction cup mount against the windshield just the to the left of the rear-view mirror.
I do wish the V1 had GPS capability to help learn the unimportant radar sources and squelch them, but I'm not sure I could live without the arrows. The V1 is an expensive little bugger, which is why I don't have a 3rd one yet for the wife's daily driver. One of these days....
