Another thing, the insurance states that they will not pay for anything except the 3 cars and 2 trucks we lost. I do not get it. We do not live in a flood plane and can not buy flood insurance.
First of all I feel bad for you and your fellow citizens who are affected. Been watching it.
All Homeowner policies exclude flood coverage. Flood insurance is purchased seperately.

Keep up the Positive Mental Attitude my friend.
We are about to be flooded out by oil. That's going to be our own nightmare.
Sorry for the loss of your car and perhaps other possessions. Seriously glad for you, your family and the horses. Your attitude says you'll recovery and be better. Best wishes with the insurance settlements.
We are about to be flooded out by oil. That's going to be our own nightmare.
The human race is going to be flooded with troubles for the way we treat this planet overall. Actually there are some that would say this storm was part of that.
So sorry to hear about all of your loss. I'm glad the horses and you and family are ok. That is of the utmost importance. Good luck with your claims. I know people that got next to no help from the Feds after the hurricanes. Doesn't seem fair if you don't qualify for flood insurance but homeowners won't cover rising water. Best of luck - you will be in my prayers.
The good news is everyone is OK, the rest is just "stuff". Look at the bright side, you don't have to clean out the horse stalls!!
Re-build bigger and better
I hate to hear that. We just barley missed it to the south. I hope that you and your insurance can come to an agreement. If you need any help with anything, just shoot me a PM.
So sorry for your loss. At least you and your family (horses too) are safe. Keep heart, trust in the lord and you will rise above this. Keep us posted. Keep your spirits up. Hold your ground iwth the insurance company - talk to adjusters and a lawyer if necessary. Read your policy carefully.
I too am really glad to hear the horses and your family were safe. The cars can all be replaced. That's fairly typical though for insurance companies to not offer flood insurance for places not really vulnerable to it. Hopefully they'll come through for you :]
Hello Corvette Family,
Here in TN around the Nashville area we have had major flooding. My beautiful Corvette was totaled with water damage. Water went over the top. When the water came up I got the car out of the garage and to higher ground. It was raining so hard. All of a sudden the water started rising even higher. I went to my car and I guess the fob was wet and the car would not react. I even put the fob in the slot in the glove box and nothing. The water overtook it and it is history. The insurance will cover it and hopfully treat me right, except for all the mods. Not only did I lose a beautiful car but the Corvette world lost a great machine.
I will be looking for a newer, nicer Corvette soon.
Our home also recieved about 3 ft of water in it. I am still in shock over what just happened, and I am a very strong minded and positive person. Our place turned into a lake, and it is 25 acres. We also have Quarter Horse facilitys and around 20 horses in the barn. We barely got them all out. The last 10 were lead out by a rider on a horse, you could not walk in the current. The water was 5 ft at that time.
I do still feel lucky to be alive and my family safe. I can buy another car and rebuild my house and ranch.
Another thing, the insurance states that they will not pay for anything except the 3 cars and 2 trucks we lost. I do not get it. We do not live in a flood plane and can not buy flood insurance. I will be working on that and see what is out there as far as federal disaster programs.
I have also been blessed and amazed by the people that have come to help. I have had corvette people, horse people, friends, neighbors, people I do not even know, without asking to come and help us out.
I have always said that there were still good hearted people in the world today and I have met alot of them.
I am greatful to everyone
I'm very sorry to hear of your loss and I can offer some suggestions regarding your desire to secure Flood Insurance.
Although your current Property & Casualty Insurer may not offer Flood Insurance that is underwritten by that respective insurer because their business guidlines may require that your dwelling be in a recognized Flood Plain; Flood Insurance however can still be purchased and you have a couple of different outlets that can provide you with the much needed Flood Insurance.
1. FEMA (The Federal Emergency Management Admin) will sell to you directly regardless of whether your dwellling is oceanfront or in the middle of Death Valley. FEMA does currently have some new business policy issurance moratoriums in certain States and you will have to check for your area. These moratoriums however only last a relatively short period of time (6 months or less) and then a new business policy can be issued and of course renewed annually.
2. Check with another Property & Casualty Insurer that is admitted to do business in your respective State of Residence. For example; if State Farm requires that your dwelling be located in a particular flood plain before they will issue a flood policy; another P&C Insurer such as Erie Insurance Company may not have that policy issuance rule.
The point is check around and start with FEMA first as they will point you into the direction of a knowledgeable insurance agent that is licensed to sell Flood Insurance in your State.
Sorry to hear of your losses, hopefully you are back on your feet and in a new vette soon. The important thing is you, your family and horses are all safe. Cars can be replaced and houses rebuilt. I know personally from having to help a friend rebuild his place after it got flooded during Hurricane Katrina back in 2005.
I have friends in the Millington area and they are also dealing with all that flooding as well.
